<![CDATA[quiksilver180 commented on When Does It Make Financial Sense To Downsize Your Car?]]> I have a Subaru STI that gets around 22 MPG. It's half way paid off and really doesn't make much sense to switch to a different car. Instead, I downtuned the engine and am getting around 28 MPG, but I also bought a $3000 motorcycle that easily gets 75 MPG, so I don't have to worry about wear and tear on my car. Works for me

<![CDATA[quiksilver180 commented on Apple Reprocesses Photo Orders So They Can Arrive Before Mother's Day]]> I purchased a hardcover photo book from Apple for my Mom a few days before Christmas. I missed the deadline by a few days with the express shipping, but I figured as long as I get it within a few days of Christmas, it would be fine.

I place the order on the 19th in the evening, by the next morning I get an email from Apple saying that since it was submitted a little late, normally it wouldn't make it by Christmas, but they said they had rush processed it and would overnight it. I got it on the 21st. I was impressed, shocked, and excited. My Mom cried because she was happy after seeing the photo book.

One of these days I'll try Shutterfly, but just with the customer service from Apple, I would order photo books from them again.

]]>
<![CDATA[quiksilver180 commented on 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI, Part One]]> I've been eyeing the 2008 STI... currently, I have an 07 Limited, but I can get a pretty good deal for the 08 while getting a good trade in amount. I do like the looks of the 08 (but with the sports grille) and the wagon functionality mostly.

I have to say though, at highway speeds, the road noise sucks... but if you replace the tires, it makes a huge difference for the best. And the ride is a little bouncy, but you can easily drink a cup of coffee with one hand and drive with the other (aggressive driving is a bit more difficult). In LA traffic, it's not bad... but my clutch doesn't enjoy it. And once you have the car for awhile, it adjusts to be calm when needed to be and insane for those other moments. Since this is my daily driver, unfortunately I have over 32,000 miles on it since I got it in September 06... but it can make it one hell of a drive to work - in a very good way!

Cops seem to love it too, as it shows on my driving record... grr...

<![CDATA[quiksilver180 commented on Nissan GT-R Stacked Up To (And Over) The NSX]]> @B: Actually, when the NSX came out in the early 90s, it was around $40,000... Honda realized they priced this too low and increased the price to about $90,000. I don't remember if it was a gradual increase or a full jump between years, but that was a huge increase. If I remember correctly, the peak point of sales for the NSX was the year it came out, then steadily decreased after that.

Too bad Honda pulled a Crown Vic and hardly updated it for the 12-some-odd years it was out. Still, a gorgeous car and if Honda/Acura ever gets their act together, we'll have a replacement. Until then...

<![CDATA[quiksilver180 commented on This Renewable Energy is Bullshit]]> Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo also uses methane from their cow manurer for power... and I believe it's been over 10 years of them doing this.

Also in Central Oregon, they have been using the a lot of the manurer from the larger farms to power the grid... but this process has only been in effect for about 5 years.

This, along with turbine toilets, allows me to take a crap and feel like I'm helping the world.

<![CDATA[quiksilver180 commented on 2007 Audi A6 3.2L, Part Two]]> With the latest Audi TT and A4 refreshes, and the launch of the A5/S5 and R8, I would love to see how this will be refreshed. Right now, the looks of the car is less than appealing than beige... so just about anything would be nice! Obviously, like ash78 said, the looks suit the target market... but I expect more from Audi.

The interior is nice, but that's all it is. Oh, and they need to fix that automatic so you can redline it without it shifting on you. Some flappy paddles would be welcome, but again... it probably doesn't suit the target market.

<![CDATA[quiksilver180 commented on Dancing Deer Apologizes For Blondie-Encrusted Metal Spear]]> @watchwhathappens: Awesome response. It's great to hear from someone on the inside. I've worked at a few small businesses, some in food, and I know things like this happens. Everyone blows it out of proportion.

]]>
<![CDATA[quiksilver180 commented on Dancing Deer Apologizes For Blondie-Encrusted Metal Spear]]> @Bald_Ben: I agree.

I think a lot of the commenters on here don't realize that these ARE HUMANS and humans have FUCKUPS too. You people need to chill. When you have a business, whether it being 20 employees, or over 20,000, not everybody will be around the water cooler talking about every corporate issue that come up. Also, it's not a CEO's job to know EVERYTHING... it would be nice if they did, but it doesn't happen. The "sue, sue, sue" response is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. Luckily, no one was hurt and it wasn't a matter of life or death. If it was, then yes, I think a better end result should result of that.

Yes, Dancing Deer dropped the ball for Helen's unfortunate "find," but the CEO wrote a very sympathetic email apologizing on what happened. You might or might not find out what happens afterwards, but at least the CEO is admitting they had a customer service problem, taking responsibility for the issue, AND personally doing doing a followup with Helen. Hopefully this all works out and both Trish and Helen are satisfied with the results.

<![CDATA[quiksilver180 commented on Hypermiling the 2007 Honda Civic 2.2 i-CTDi and 2007 Audi Q7 4.2 TDI]]> @pauln: Fifth Gear did a comparison with a small diesel, a small petrol, and a Prius. They drove it normally at the same time. Guess which one lost big time? Yes, the Prius.

People pay more for the hybrid versions of cars. Why not save your money, purchase a 4 cylinder Camry instead of the Hybrid version? Toyota claims the hybrid gets as good as the 4 cylinder, so just purchase the cheaper. People are stupid, uninformed, and are purchasing hybrids to make a statement.

Lets say the next Prius gets a unbelievable 15% increase in fuel savings. Big whoop. 51 MPG. Both a VW Jetta TDI and the Civic i-CTDi can get better milage. I haven't heard that having the urea system takes off 5% efficiency... it might, but I would doubt that cleaning the exhaust takes off that much, or anything.

I'm with Ben about having a hybrid diesel engine and to see how efficient those could be.
