<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on Project Car Hell, Low And Slow Edition: 1964 Impala or 1949 Mercury Trio?]]> @LTDScott, Porcubimmer pilot: I've been waiting for someone to notice the 48-star flags for American cars of the pre-1959 era.

<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on 1967 Porsche 912]]> @A strolling player: Oops, typo. That should be a grand more.

<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on Danica Patrick, Milka Duno In Towel-Snapping Cat Fight At Mid-Ohio]]> I say they should settle their differences by having a burnout contest- in '72 Camaros, of course- at the nearest Stop-N-Rob parking lot. Loser buys Milwaukee's Best for everyone.

<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! Nitro Fumes And Meat On A Stick At The Mopar Mile High Nationals!]]> @philibuster: @BeerDearthair: Anyone who wants to whore out their car-related site would be better off just trying to convince me or one of the other writers to post about it. If it's interesting, we'll post.

Or they could just work references to their sites into a comment, via the use of Our Friend HTML. For example, say you're the entrepreneur behind Bad Candy, and you're stressing because you must whore your site on Jalopnik, yet you realize mean ol' Murilee will ban you if you just spam all your comments with your URL. You could do something like this:

Seeing the shag carpeting in the Primate Aztek reminds me of the time I puked an entire carton of Chamoy Of Fruit on the floor of my heavily customized '87 Celebrity Eurosport.

<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on PCH, Turbo Offenhauser Euro Sedan Edition: Peugeot 404 or Rover 2000?]]> @graverobber- Two BEER minimum: @schoolpsych: @justalf: OK, your PCH Tirades™ have convinced me- I'm headin' to Lodi to see if the Offy's seller will take a slightly used Crown Vic (with the super-rare Safety Cat option) in trade for the engine.

<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on 300 Old Cars Down On The Alameda Street]]> @PaladiNSX: Hard as it is to believe, but the APD was much, much, much more hardasstical about traffic law enforcement 25 years ago, when I started hooning it up as a teenager. Back then, if you drove some kind of hot-rod car- as I did- you'd be pulled over and searched (and I mean hands-on-the-hood, legs-apart, full-pat-down searched, while the cop's partner rummaged through the car in hopes of finding a joint or knife) at least a couple times a week. Guys 20 years older than me say it was even worse in the 50s and 60s. It's not the yuppies that make it that way, it's the angry retired military types.

The real change in Alameda in recent years is the closing of the Navy base and the crazy upswing in house prices. The world of Alameda car freaks hasn't changed much.

<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on 1973 Buick Electra 225, With Bonus 1973 Poll]]> @graverobber- Two BEER minimum: I think y'all would be puzzled by the list of the DOTS cars that made my day upon finding them. The '80 Fire Arrow is definitely near the top of that list, as is the Strada.

]]>
<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on 1973 Buick Electra 225, With Bonus 1973 Poll]]> For what it's worth, out of all those cars it was the Datsun 610 that was the most exciting find for me. Yeah, sick.

<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on 300 Old Cars Down On The Alameda Street]]> @SundaySundaySecondShift: The block (Park Street looking north from Santa Clara) in the postcard photograph is the same one on which the Quantum was shot.

<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on PCH, Fear And Loathing On The Campaign Trail '72 Edition: Mercury Cougar Or Volvo 1800ES?]]> @thekaiser: I wish I had my copy of the book now, so I could look for clues, but I loaned it out to a politics-junky friend and he never gave it back.

The 145 is the most likely car, but you never know.

<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on Ultimate Diecast Toy Car Created: 1979 Chrysler LeBaron Town And Country!]]> I bought one. They're on eBay at very reasonable prices. I've now doubled the size of my diecast collection, which was just a red Pacer X up until now.

<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on Innovative Swede Builds Tuff Willys Caprichero!]]> @JB_Finesse: It's fine to insult me, the site, or the posts, provided it's done with some humor and/or intelligence. It's even fine to not know that the Capri was sold as a Ford in Europe for years after the quasi-Mercury-branded US model.

Insulting other commenters and bringing the annoyance of the internet's lowest common denominator's parody of debate into our site, however, is not fine. That guy is outta here!

<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on Top Ten Best Car Ads Of The 1990s]]> @Mad_Science: At this point, I probably must admit that I'm one of those freaks who doesn't watch TV, so I missed out on all those 90s ads back in the day.

]]>
<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on Top Ten Best Car Ads Of The 1990s]]> @Mad_Science: I spent the 90s being relieved that the 80s were over. The early-90s bias is the result of our overly strict definition of "classic" in the past, which meant most of our 90s ad posts were at least 15 years old.

]]>
<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on What Is Down On The Street?]]> @andy_wallwhore: Wow! Now my stenciled PCH Tipster shirts seem so... amateurish.

Can you make one for the '80 Fire Arrow?

]]>
<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on What Is Down On The Street?]]> @sos10: Finding a Strada and a Scout parked together was one of the highlights of my DOTS-hunting career. The '80 Plymouth Fire Arrow was another red-letter find.

<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on PCH, Red, White, And Blue Flames Edition: Austin America Or Rambler American?]]> @Sharky: It was a bit tough to find Ferrari America/Superamerica projects, but I totally would have used them.

<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on PCH, Red, White, And Blue Flames Edition: Austin America Or Rambler American?]]> @UDMan: Well, at least "American" is in the name of the parent corporation.

]]>
<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on 1975 Toyota Celica ST]]> @Dr_FiIL: I haven't yet had anyone get angry about me shooting cars in Alameda. Sometimes car owners come out and ask me what I'm doing, and so far they've all been happy that someone thinks their old car is cool.

Cars on public property are fair game for photography, and the privacy issue isn't much of an issue in California (where anti-stalker laws mean that you can no longer get someone's personal info by giving a license plate number to the DMV).

I had one guy with a '69 Charger ask me not to publish photos of his car, because there was a distinctive Alameda landmark in some of the shots and the Dukes Of Hazzard movie had just come out. He was concerned that local idiots might figure out how to find the car and hotwire it for some Bo and Luke action. That made sense, so you won't be seeing that car here.

<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on So Many Hell Projects, Your Head Will Explode: Bring A Trailer!]]> @acarr260: I didn't do this post because of the spams. Keep that in mind, those of you considering spamming comments to get your site in a post.

]]>
<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on So Many Hell Projects, Your Head Will Explode: Bring A Trailer!]]> @junkman: Yes, and they've grabbed a few PCH candidates just before I could write about them.

]]>
<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on 1969 Volkswagen Beetle]]> All I'm saying is that the state has the car registered as a 1969 model. It's pointless to argue about the "true" year of an old street-driven Beetle, because it's probably had 2/3 of the parts swapped by now (possibly including the VIN itself).

]]>
<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on 1969 Volkswagen Beetle]]> According to the state smog check database, it's a '69.

]]>
<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on AMC Concord Crusher-Bound, In Spite Of Landau Roof]]> Just so you know, I rescued those fine pillar emblems. Pure class.

]]>
<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on PCH, Dante Alighieri Thinks You Deserve It Edition: Lamborghini Jarama Or Maserati Quattroporte?]]> @junkman: I'm pretty sure you could sell a grand worth of parts off that Maserati, thus qualifying it for LeMons. Anyone that enters this car gets People's Choice for sure- how could a (non-Biturbo) Maserati fail to do otherwise?

]]>
<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on Murilee Shows You How To Steal Gas, 1985 Style!]]> @biminitwst: Sadly, it was only a 351W. Still reasonably quick, though... well, no, but it sounded good!

]]>
<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on Murilee Shows You How To Steal Gas, 1985 Style!]]> @LTDScott, Porcubimmer pilot: And, yes, that was my friend's early Fox Mustang getting siphoned. Real gas too- got to do it right!

]]>
<![CDATA[Murilee Martin commented on Murilee Shows You How To Steal Gas, 1985 Style!]]> @LTDScott, Porcubimmer pilot: That car also had the column shifter, though it was disconnected. The linkage got garbooned, thus the Pinto floor shifter (with garden hose and hoseclamps involved in the improvised linkage).
