I was reading about this the other day -- in related presentations last year, they estimated that power supplies for locomotives and ships should be capable of equivalent power generation on the order of one thousand horsepower per liter.

Back in the 80s when GM thought it was clever for your car to talk to you, at a party we disconnected the wire to the driver's door, so that it would continuously announce, "Your door is ajar."
Since it did this even with the ignition off, I was kind of surprised it didn't kill his battery before he had to leave later that night.
(Man, some of you people don't seem to grasp the difference between "prank" and "vandalism"...)

$3000 is a very typical price for good a 10K-lbs 2-post.
About the cheapest 2-post runs about $1900 (DirectLift).
@brandonvalentine: The top crossmember doesn't really matter, the maximum lift height is usually far lower than the top of the posts.

Congratulations, you've described one third of the reason "rat rod" doesn't apply to every pre-1940's-based hot rod under the sun.
Tips: The second third-of-the-reason is that it generally applies to DIY efforts.
The final third is that unless you have one, you really just shouldn't use the term.
