I visited my grandmother's extended family in China a few years ago. They lived in one village (everyone shared the same surname) and they all had outhouses and cooked with coal. The most well off cousin had a solar powered water heater that put out about 20 gallons of lukewarm water at best. They (over 100 people) took me out to a banquet for my benefit. I pulled one of the elders aside and offered to pay for part of the banquet. None of them made more than $2,000 a year. The elder told me: "We're not rich, but we're very happy. Tell your grandmother that we're doing just fine."

Just an observation from a car guy. $80,000 CDN is about $80,400 U.S. A Merc E350 (which is a bit better than the E320) MSRPs here in the States for $50,000 U.S. That's a big difference. It's expensive to live large in Canuck-land.
