200,000 miles / 22 mpg combined * $4/gal for gas = $36,363.63/yr for gas. Yeah.... no. Give me a wimpy Honda or VW any day if I know I'm gonna be putting that kinda miles on it.
I think I can sum up my feelings about this with this sentence:
"I don't want a gaming laptop, I want a laptop that I can play games on".

See the distinction? I'm totally willing to make tradeoffs if it means I can get gaming performance some of the time and laptop performance the rest of the time. This machine is getting there, but to me it doesn't get either completely right and is charging a lot for what it does get right. I want to see stuff like what Sony's doing with the Z2 where they're sticking a PCI-E graphics card (and blu-ray burner) in an external bay and attaching it via lightpeak. This is where things should be going. Unfortunately Sony managed to mess up a good thing with this first round (awkward chassis, bad keyboard, normal Sony bloatware) but this is whats really getting me interested in buying a laptop again.

edit: A similarily priced Z2 with all the accessories (external 6550M, Blu-ray burner, battery slice) has almost the same specs AND gets over 10 hours of battery life. Hmmm.....

It might or might not suck, but it looks far too interesting to pass up.

Its gonna be hard to not compare this game to DE:Human Revolution even though they're really two completely different genres which happen to share the same perspective. Unfortunately even though I'm really rooting for this game to be good it looks like its gonna be a bit of a has-been when put next to Human Revolution.

And what the hell happened to their trailer team? Every trailer has been pretty kick ass up until this point. This just makes the game look generic as hell.

This is a problem of where the company decides it wants to make its money. Google wants eyeballs on ads so they're going to keep upgrading android in order to entice more people (and therefore more eyeballs on ads). Phone manufacturers want you to buy their stuff. This means getting the stuff out the door and selling it. After you buy it they could care less, but if they didn't care at all then you the consumer will probably jump ship and go to another manufacturer, which is why manufacturers keep their phones updated at all. Carriers want you to stay on their plans. They only need to keep you happy enough to not want to jump ship to another carrier, so they'll also begrudgingly update the phone in order to keep you around till your contract is over.

Now contrast this with Apple's business model. Apple wants you to buy their stuff. Period. Doesn't matter if its a device, or a movie, or a song, or an app, any of those sales get them money. In order to keep the customer happy in that environment they have to keep all their devices able to do as much of the buying as possible, which is why they are able to keep old devices even remotely up to date. They'd rather you keep buying stuff on an old device rather than dumping the old device (and thus a customer) completely.

tldr:
Android updates are slow because capitalism and business models are a bitch.

Unfortunately not. The only space sim that I can think of which came out in the last 5 years of any worth is X3. I love X3, but its not as much of a pick up and play game as Freespace 2 was. Freespace 2 was an interesting game in that it was as simple or as complicated as you wanted it to be, and if you spent the time to check loadouts, manage your squadron, and play with your shield and power settings it was a very deep game despite having rather simplistic physics and only a few classes of weapons. Looking farther back there was of course Freelancer which was fun but definitely went away from the big capital ship battles of Freespace to a space sim/RPG model. And umm... Tachyon: The Fringe was alright, and Starlancer was passable, as was Darkstar One. But the two games I miss from the genre are Freespace 2 and Independence War 2, both games which took huge strides forward as sequels both of which haven't been successfully topped since.
Revivals you say? Give me Freespace 3 with an ex-Volition guy leading it, or Homeworld 3 with the full force of Relic behind it. While I played games like Kings Quest a little I really missed the point and click adventure boat by a few years and instead caught the space sim boat right when it was getting good. I really can't believe that there aren't more competent space sims these days, even for consoles. What happened to the thrill of blowing up a multi-km starship with you leading the charge? I'm gonna miss my Athena bomber...
No... thats just quintessentially Mazda. A bit odd, lots of fun, rabid following among those in the know, but lacking true mass appeal.
No, and last week's episode of Top Gear pretty much nailed why. F1 is a sport of the elite. NASCAR is a sport of the commons. The coasts might embrace F1 just because of its worldy aspects but most of middle America will ignore it just because its the sport of a bunch of rich 'urpeans, like polo. Then again, golf was that way too, so maybe their is hope for F1?
Yup... this pretty much checks all the boxes for me. This is the car that the Mazdaspeed 3 should have been (though I would want the backseats still there, just make them removable).
why do I suddenly hear the voice of Tim the Tool Man Tailor grunting my head?
Hydrogen is lost as well, but there's so damn much of it its not a big loss. Both of those get "lost" because they float to the top of the atmosphere as a result of being less dense than nitrogen, oxygen and CO2 (the major components of "air") and then are swept away by solar winds, which instead of blowing in air are just high energy particles that do pretty much the same thing and blow away the top level of the atmosphere.
This isn't Google's fault, but rather Verizon's and more specifically Qualcomm's for not open sourcing the chipset drivers. So much for any future CDMA Nexus phones. I'll have to keep that in mind during the next upgrade. Till then, my Verizon GNex will keep chugging along running AOKP or whatever community build comes along (hopefully CM9...)
This either means EA is going all out in making sure this IP sticks or they're afraid they've already screwed the pooch in development are just trying to cover their bases. Either way, at least we get a game that many have been looking forward to without the stupid online pass. I call it a win.
I just hope Relic makes it out of this ok. I've liked every game they've made (on pc anyway), and I hope that without a Warhammer 40k license maybe they can go back to say.... Homeworld? Oh man would I love a Homeworld sequel or reboot.

Oh and Volition... Freespace 3? PLEASE? Maybe some open-minded publisher can pick up those two and begin a 90's revival. Just don't let that publisher be EA...

I think honda screwed themselves with the mileage rating on this car. If you take a look at the website the hybrid is rated at 44/44. That means the customer is going to expect no less than 44 MPG since the city mileage is normally worse than highway and this usually sets a good minimum for daily driving. My car has never averaged below its city mileage rating unless I was really flooring it (aka atypical driving conditions). Then again, its only rated 19/25...

edit: People on forums seem to be getting mileage in the mid to low 30's. That does seem abnormally low...

The $200 price point will buy you a toy or a glorified e-reader. The $100 price point buys you crap. A tablet needs to surpass everything that I can do on my phone (currently a Galaxy Nexus) minus the phone calls, and at these price points no android tablet does that. Hell, I'd venture to say no android tablet at any price point does that, seeing as how the Prime has the wireless issues, and any Tegra 2 tablet has problems decoding 1080p video. Maybe the Prime refresh or the new Acer will fix it, but I think it'll be Samsung who will finally get it right when they're able to stick a 1080p amoled screen on a 10.1 running a Tegra 3 or later. Too bad this won't happen for at least another year going by the rate of amoled development.
It took me 2 years to get 1 scratch on my iphone 3g, so I'm not worried about any scratches on my GNex anytime soon. Gorilla glass (and reinforced glass in general) is seriously strong, and really the only condition that you need to be careful about is if you go to the beach or other areas with lots of sand around.

Cases on the other hand... I've dropped phones enough times to know that even if the case is a little ugly, it will save my bacon at least once to make it worth it.

Something similar but a bit more francophile. Gotta love Jean Reno...
So I could have a ZL-1, a GT500, or a CTS-V for nearly the same money? I'll take the CTS-V any day. Lose a little horsepower, gain A LOT of comfort, still keep the kick ass 6 speed. Also get a choice of coupe, sedan or wagon. Oh, and I've seen a CTS-V wagon go around a track (Thunderhill). Its a strange sight seeing a 4 door wagon move that fast...
