"We didn't have any of that fancy E-lec-tronical stuff when I was a kid,and we liked it!None of those fancy pants "seat belts" either, and we liked it!Riding in the "way back" of a Fairlane Squire inhaling carbon monoxide? We liked it!!
Only fun part of getting older, you can turn into Dana Carvey's "Grumpy Old Man" convincingly.....You can actually say "In my day....."
Actually in "my day" by the time I was about 8 both sisters were off to college or elsewhere and I was an "only child" for road trips, and our vehicles for said camping trips improved considerably.VW camper,Ford bubble top conversion van,and my personal favorite, the Toyota Chinook, that was one cool little rig.I could just sit there in the back with a book or watch the scenery go by as my folks were stuffed into that little 75 Toyota pickup cabin."
"@KVHnik: Yeesh, these days that might be considered child abuse! No built in DVD or Playstation? How will your children survive?!!?!Oh yeah, the same way the rest of us older folks did on family trips.....Seriously,bravo to you for allowing your kids to actually SEE something on a road trip,I applaud you."
"@graverobber- It says Loud Pipes Save Lives: Holy crap, you win,now that I've wiped the Keystone Light off my monitor I can write this.
But hey,hurling for a trip to K.B.F."
"@nosirrahg: Don't be too sure about those daughters.I had to wait an extra year to get a license because my ten year older sister was a major league hoon ("If Nancy was so bad, what about the boy?").Let's put it this way, when my folks were out for their Wednesday bowling league,Nancy was "babysitting" me taking me to OCIR for the bracket racing in whatever hot car she had at the time......I still remember that killer Polara, then the bad ass Duster (hey, early to mid 70's).She was good too, could hole shot just about anyone,AND hit it down the strip.
Alas,I'm now 45,Nancy is 55,her and her husband own a freaking Honda. Not a bad way to grow up though...."
"Do my eyes deceive me or is that a relocated fuel fill going through that "professionally fabricated" window?Plexiglas, self tapping screws and copious amounts of silicone caulk is the sign a true genius fabricator."
"@FuzzyPlushroom: Never owned a Pinto hatchback, but two wagons, both of them the super stylin' "Squires",as in they both had hideous fake wood siding.Of course they both had the bitchin' factory mags,so naturally they were major league chick magnets."
