<![CDATA[jolietjake commented on McLaren SLR Disintegrates In Deadly Qatar Accident]]> I really don't understand the death in this crash. The passenger compartment does not at all look like it's hit something solid. Race cars hit walls at 200+ all the time. There have been MANY people who walked away from crashes at the salt flats going speeds well in excess of what the McLaren is capable of. For the amount of money you spend on one of these, rolling it over 100 times in the desert should not be fatal.

<![CDATA[jolietjake commented on It's Like A Three Stooges Bit, But With Cars]]> Sorry, but I call photochop. The Civic's right rear wheel is obscured in both pictures. The right front of the Altima is pixilated like a Japanese porno as is the left rear of the Civic. From th rear, the Altima appears to be on the curb and leaning into the Civic, but not from the front. But the thing that disturbs me the most is that there are no NASCAR style racing stripes along the concrete barrier from the cars scraping into the toll booth.

<![CDATA[jolietjake commented on Sir Malcolm Cambell's Grandson Takes Run At Steam-Powered Land Speed Record]]> Now that I think more about it, if aerodynamics are that important, is the F-14 tail section and the antenna stolen from a black trans-am really necessary?

]]>
<![CDATA[jolietjake commented on Sir Malcolm Cambell's Grandson Takes Run At Steam-Powered Land Speed Record]]> @facingtraffic:
You know it's funny you say that. I was just wondering if the aerodynamics were that important at 150MPH. I mean don't get me wrong, I know you want a fairly streamlined shape, but are the fairings over the wheels the difference between 145MPH and 150MPH?

<![CDATA[jolietjake commented on Behind Audi's Biodiesel Victory At The 24 Hours Of Le Mans]]> If you really want some advancement in motorsports while still limiting the speeds, put some real world restrictions on the cars. 500 mile race? 20 gallons of fuel (Any fuel you want) and no tire changes.

<![CDATA[jolietjake commented on Chrysler To Increase Prices 2% On 2008, 2009 Models]]> Nobody who buys a Chrysler product could possibly be doing it because of perceived value for money. Anybody who actually researches the price vs. quality of their competitors is already gone as a customer. There is probably plenty of room for them to raise prices without affecting sales numbers.

<![CDATA[jolietjake commented on Project Car Hell: R33 Skyline GT-R or Aston Martin Lagonda?]]> @theallpowerfulme: See that's my point exactly. The parts you need you can't get in Japan. You want a Garrett T25 BB Turbo? No problem. You want a cams, injectors, or a manifold? No problem, No Problem, No Problem. You want doors? Forget it.

Not too big a deal though. I'm sure that driver's side door on the Skyline will buff right out.

<![CDATA[jolietjake commented on Project Car Hell: R33 Skyline GT-R or Aston Martin Lagonda?]]> @Turboner: "Aren't rhetorical questions supposed to have a question mark."

I'm suffering from a hangover today, so when I read that line I had to pause... reread... pause... reread etc. This is definitely the deepest thought I'll have all day.

]]>
<![CDATA[jolietjake commented on Project Car Hell: R33 Skyline GT-R or Aston Martin Lagonda?]]> Oh, I think you are all seriously discounting the hell involved in the Skyline. The problem is that even here in Japan most of th R-33's have been shredded for scrap. So need a door? You might find one in the UK. Need a windshield? Australia... Oh wait... Need it with US DOT spec glass? Fabricate.

By the time you are done shipping and fabricating you'll have spent enough that you could have just bought a pair of new GT-R's.

Note to Murlee from the ultra anal skyline owners club: The engine is a RB26DETT not RB25DETT. The RB25 sold in the GTS25T model is a single turbo making it a RB25DET.

<![CDATA[jolietjake commented on Scott Dixon Wins Indianapolis 500 By Huge Margin]]> I've been a Danica supporter in the past, but that tantrum by her was just plain low class. If she had gone over and hit Briscoe, there was nothing he could have done.

If he stands there and takes it... He's a tool. Hits her back... He's a tool. Best he could have done is bent her over and spanked her like the child she is.

]]>
<![CDATA[jolietjake commented on PCH, Fun With Honda Engines Edition: NSX-Powered Legend or Turbo Civic?]]> The problem with the Civic is not the availability of parts or the difficulty of the build. It's the end result. The D15B is a VTEC SOHC with a 9.6:1 CR and stock HP of about 135. Add $5K in parts and hundreds of hours of dyno time and you might just get it to perform as well as a new Civic SI.

<![CDATA[jolietjake commented on Brazil Discovers Huge Oil Reserve - Resume Conspicuous Consumption]]> Although supply and demand holds for oil like any other product, I think some are misunderstanding the supply. The discovery of more oil does not increase the supply. The pumping of more oil increases supply. And for the most part, the pumping is controlled by OPEC. Expect them to offer Brazil large shares of the quota to ensure they maintain the stranglehold on this resource. The OPEC countries have all but said they are intentionally keeping oil prices high because of the disproportionate affect it has on the US. They have all but said they are intentionally driving the US economy into the ground. Fuck OPEC. Fuck them up their stupid asses.

<![CDATA[jolietjake commented on Nissan GT-R Stacked Up To (And Over) The NSX]]> It occurs to me that the angles on the GT-R, although not my favorite, remind me of the F-117 stealth fighter. ]]>
<![CDATA[jolietjake commented on Traffic Jam Torment: Physics Proves That Bottlenecks Are Bulls**t]]> It's the brake lights. 80% of drivers, including my wife, are just driving along looking at the brake lights of the car in front of them. Slightly tapping your brakes to reduce a little speed causes these idiots to panic. Then you have the Calgon effect. You slow down by 5mph and they slow down by 20. And the idiot behind them another 20. And so on and so and so on. Soon, everyone is stopped.

Then there is the "restart". If each driver takes 2 seconds to react to the car in front of them moving, you only need to be 150 cars back to have a 5 minute delay.

My solution? Get rid of brake lights.
