Please, leverage your abilities to change this back to the old Jalopnik. I used to read this EVERYDAY, EVERY article. This is the first time I've been back in months.
@HawaiiR: That's what I keep thinking with all the bandwagon jumpers so eager to shoot this show down. In one year when it's gone and we're back to the shit on Speed the same assholes will be whinging about how there's no honest car programming the old US of A. I mean Fuck...we just had a show there they had a fucking Coupe Deville and a 300zx in a moonshine running challenge. Ferrara jumped the goddamn thing in a fucking epic run around that course. Couldn't have been staged because he destroyed the thing when he bent it in half off that jump.
What more do you want? TGUK hosts doing American bits? That's precisely the vibe people are getting. When in reality they're not even giving this show a chance. TGUK sucked on it's first go round. It didn't even have the triumvirate of hosts.
With Spinelli comes a good portion of the Old Jalopnik. It's time that a lot of the newer Jalopophiles read up on the commenting "rules". Now, they're not rules per se, but commenting is what made Jalopnik great, and the loss of it meant that a lot of the old guard left. Let's see if we can't raise commenting abilities just a bit in honor of the return of Spinelli.
@ieatbabies: It's had three episodes. Most of those three episodes have been a bit introductory. How on earth can you pass a judgement like this based on three episodes? Really, you should look at the last episode and go "Hey, American cars and runnin' shine, that's a novel idea. I hope they do more of that".
Hey...Psst. I'm going to let you in on a little secret. They ARE going to do more of that WITH American cars.
P.S. Fuck you for jumping on the anti-TopGear bandwagon. Next time provide a legitimate qualm rather than make up this bullshit.
@VolumePlus: So...unlike everybody else, you simply want "SWEET" cars to be drifted around the runway. Really, the best parts about TGUK and TGUS is/are going to be the challenges and competition.
@HawaiiR: Ferrara is funny. This has been the best effort so far. If you can't see the gradual improvement so far then so be it...don't watch. But you and every other person that leaves and then complains about "No car programming in the US" can go fuck off.
@Wayne Kile: It won't be TGUK. It just won't. Get over it. FUCK. Why should it be TGUK? Really, if they stick to American cars and American bits it will succeed.
@Isaac Unson: Adam Ferrara is the only person on the show that I find genuine and unforced. He's really the glue binding the three together at the moment. Foust is a joy to watch drive. Rutledge has made me laugh a couple times with his idiocy. Ferrara has made me laugh the most.
Okay...I'll admit. I enjoyed last nights show. Adam Ferrara is genuinely funny and the shows most endearing host. Foust and Rutledge are coming around. I'm looking forward to more episodes of this nature. Really, if the show sticks to a good guest, a solid American style competition...etc, it will succeed. Good going TopGear USA...I'm still tuned in.
@Big_Bear: The first episode was attrocious. That said, when you try and copy a show that's perfect you damn well better be up for receiving the damning reviews that come with it when you are terrible on your first outting. Everybody here desperately wants this show to succeed. We just don't think it was given the proper ingredients in it's hosting up front.
I've set the DVR for every episode in hopes that supporting this will eventually bring more of this type of programming to the states.
Okay, now for last night's episode: It was attrocious. There wasn't a single moment in last night's episode that didn't feel forced. That said, it was widely expected by American UK-TopGear enthusiasts, and I'm still expecting this thing to get better. Really, I think America has the auto-ingredients and history to make this show. They just need to find their groove. I do have by doubts, though. They might not find their groove. And...Quite honestly, it will never be TG-UK.
