Look, if someone else is driving your car, adjusting the mirrors should be as important to you as your seatbelt. Its not really a big deal to move them back.
@merlot_brougham: I did mention that they were stripped, but I guess I didn't explain that they were stripped to just the metal body. The V8 engine would easily fit front to back in that car. The hood and engine bay are enormous in that direction. Side to side would be a bigger issue. I would assume, you can correct me if I am wrong, that the race team would have to fit that engine around a double wishbone front suspension, where an Z4M could get away with macpherson struts. They could move the battery to the back of the car like in the 135i, and the macpherson struts would leave greater side to side clearance. Also, race cooling equipment is much bigger than stock parts.
I have to believe that the engineering challenge of putting the V8 into the Z4 would be less than daunting, but the resulting vehicle wouldn't live up to M car standards. That big of an engine in that small of a car would ruin the balance and cause serious handling issues. The race team could get around this in a number of ways that would be cost prohibitive for a production car.
I'm not saying BMW is going to or even should build a V8 Z4, but I believe that this car is compelling evidence that they could.
I would prefer to see a Z4M with a beefed up N54 or N55 anyhow.
@merlot_brougham: GT3 cars are meant to be close to their production counterparts.
They are factory built then stripped and race prepped. Basically you are wrong.
@Elhigh: In East Tennessee you can probably drop an extra $100K for ten times the land. You can then hunt your own property. I do like your style though.
@Foo2rama: I was suggesting it's an angry old man kind of hate. The hate that is there just to hate something. It doesn't have to be and usually isn't solidly grounded in logic or experience.
Its an auto, so I wouldn't be interested, but a quick peek at ebay says this is a decent price.
Also, I would like to say that this is boring. Many of the cars that are voted nice price are boring. They may be fun to own, but we get to see some really interesting stuff when its a little off. I believe every car up here should really be a crack pipe, and it will have to tickle the commentariat just right to achieve nice price.
Well, they won't make it lighter, and it really doesn't need bigger brakes, but here is my list of improvements that would make it awesome:
1. Fix the front suspension. It's a little soft, a little vague and leans over so much that it shreds front tires around a track.
2. Proper LSD. There really isn't an excuse for this being left out of the 135i.
3. It's already fast as stink, but it could use a bit more power.
Anything else that doesn't add weight is a plus.
