<![CDATA[hotrodmetal commented on Foose Coupes Start Hitting The Road]]> It is form before function.

Neat car, but it has major function issues. Heat & suspension gremlins have plagued this car.

It is also very low. Foose bottomed his Green Foose Coupe out on a raised manhole cover last year. Wasn't pretty.

It looks as much like the prowler, as is looks like a 32 roadster. Not much. Especially up close.

Guys that buy this car are buying into a dream, a lot like most of the recently new Harley Chopper owners.

<![CDATA[hotrodmetal commented on Unique Performance Customers Suing Carroll Shelby]]> @ranger88: You need to do some homework my uninformed friend. Shelby cares about money only. Ask anyone that has done Business with him previously. Ask: Brian Angliss, or Mike McClusky, or Ford, or Kirkham, or the SAAC, or anybody else.

You may have known that Brent Fenimore, formerly of shelby american(Now defunct after being steered into bancruptcy) was one of the higher ups at Unique performance prior to their problems.

It's really no surprise that Unique was a carbon copy of shelby Automobiles. A lot of false promises to customers that feel like they need this particular car to complete their life. Suckers.

Shelby seems to have the deepest pockets in this latest case of car capers. It is fairly easy to believe that he will be named in any or all of the suits filed, because he may be complicit in all the bad business that went on.

And all the negative comments, he's earned them.

]]>
<![CDATA[hotrodmetal commented on Unique Performance Auction Nets More Than $1,000,000 Dollars, But That's Not Enough]]> I still dig the new mustang. I even bought one.

Unique & Shelby were most likely complicit in swindling people by selling them a dream. If you have ever done business with either of them, you would understand.

Most of the people who bought these cars thought they could use these cars as an investment, or flip them at barret jackson.

The fact is that the original mustang and other musclecars were popular without a signed dashboard, or shelby's involvement, or barret jackson. They were also used as transportation, not just a weekend ride.

Foose is a stand up guy, and I have heard that he has made efforts to take care of any loose ends with what happened.

Go out & do some burnouts with the cars that you have, you will feel better. @Tlang:

<![CDATA[hotrodmetal commented on Judge Orders Pre-Sentence Investigation For Nick Hogan]]> It's unfortunate his friend is permanently screwed up. He should be well cared for. This shouldn't be a massive payday for his family, just because of the parents.

That being said, Most if not all of us have done stupid crap that could have resulted in the same outcome.

I am not defending this kids stupidity, but this is not uncommon, and street racing has been going on forever, no matter the generation.

I remember drag racing with my buddy in his 63 Nova, which was a 12 second car In Highschool. I knew full well that I could have been hurt or killed. Sometimes, some of us would even grab a six pack and go cruise. I wouldn't recommend it, especially now.

Yeah, his parents gave him the car, and he is in a special position in life, but his parents can't control all of his actions, just like parents can't control their kids at that age.

I may get some grief for this post, but I don't claim to be better, or worse than this kid.

<![CDATA[hotrodmetal commented on 2008 Daytona 500: Winner Ryan Newman]]> Nascar is trying to control the build process as much as they can without actually building the cars. This limits their liability/risks to racers & spectators if something goes horribly wrong.

The ability to cheat/race has been greatly reduced. It has all become mostly strategy.

I worked for a company in NC that built the bodies for some of the teams. When I first started with them, I couldn't believe how old the technology was with these cars. There is adjustability in the suspensions, and driveline packages, but these cars are a throwback when compared to any serious race car. They are not as fast as they used to be either.

It seems to already be a spec series in my opinion. @Tele:

<![CDATA[hotrodmetal commented on Weekend Query: Your Best/Worst Ticket]]> You have the SUPREME BREAK OF THE NIGHT! SLOW DOWN!

110mph in a 55mph. Wheaton IL in 1990:Butterfield RD.

I was driving in my older brother's 77'Corvette, about a mile from home 11pm. I blasted out of my part time job to home, and entered our subdivision pretty fast, and just about the time I was going to fly through the 4-way stop sign, I see lights coming up fast behind me.

I locked up the brakes, and put my window down.

The officer asked me how fast I was going, and I said that I thought it was about 65. YOU HAD IT HAMMERED he said.

It took me a while to find the registration & insurance while he ran my license. In the meantime the officer was called to a priority situation. He was not happy.

I did get the supreme break of the night & a great story to match.

I thought I was good until I learned to drive a 10speed split shift tandem axle diesel truck. Needed to learn to double clutch, match revs-no synchros, and time the traffic lights, while keeping attention to traffic with a 60,000lbs rig/load. This really helped in my amateur racing.

<![CDATA[hotrodmetal commented on Schwarzenegger Says California Will Sue Federal Government Over Emissions Ruling]]> You didn't read my post. I think more efficient cars are a benefit for everyone.

Do you really think that some lame government legislation tug-o-war between CA and the EPA will really do anything except be a sideshow for politics in an election year?

Folks like yourself would never go outside your comfort zone to make anything happen, based on all of your reasons of why you can't do any changes. You expect it all just to happen by everyone else, or say "Oh Well" when it doesn't.

You will adjust to the system set by others & complain when it doesn't suit you, but you will never do anything beyond that.

We need people like you to keep paying taxes blindly & buy whatever is put in front of you. It's great for the overall economy.
@ninjatales:

]]>
<![CDATA[hotrodmetal commented on Schwarzenegger Says California Will Sue Federal Government Over Emissions Ruling]]> Whats wrong with pedal power? Or taking the Bus? Or walking a mile to work? Are you against the greater benefit of using public transportation given the inconvenient stops?

The vehicles we have can be a lot better in efficiency, but consumers don't demand them, and they don't want to pay the high cost for them.

More efficient cars are better for everyone, and when the general public demands that transportation to be built to an efficient standard, instead of a price, we will have cleaner emissions.

You are right, not everyone will pay a high cost for gas everyday. They also will not go out of their way to consume less.

@ninjatales:

]]>
<![CDATA[hotrodmetal commented on Schwarzenegger Says California Will Sue Federal Government Over Emissions Ruling]]> My solution is simple: Consume Less. Put the system on trial. Localize your community: This can mean redesign it for foot travel. It's not too late to change your way of consuming/traveling/etc..

You want cleaner cars? Scared of emissions? Do what You can about it. Using a half hearted piece of legislation to do that is a joke.

<![CDATA[hotrodmetal commented on Schwarzenegger Says California Will Sue Federal Government Over Emissions Ruling]]> You are the exception to the rule & we all applaud your sacrifices in life.

I agree with you that there are real consequenses to the over industrialization mess that we have. It is obvious. Tailpipe emissions & fuel efficiency are a minor issue, but an important catalyst for other discussions.

Wouldn't you agree that people have a choice? Especially in transportation?

Don't you find it sad that a lot of people that consider themselves "environmentalists" really don't practice it? Are these the people you identify yourself with?

I wouldn't identify myself with the "environmentalists" just because it is fashionable.

I'm really okay with your explosive response too. At least you're angry enough to actually do what you say your going to do. Right?

<![CDATA[hotrodmetal commented on Unique Performance Employees Ask For Owed Wages]]> It's too bad Foose was involved with these con-artists. He is a decent dude, and is probably trying to set things right with the employees whether he has to or not.

Shelby on the the other hand probably is running like hell from this. He may have given Unique the playbook to go by. Brent Fenimore -formerly of Shelby American was working at Unique. What a dirty business.

]]>
<![CDATA[hotrodmetal commented on Schwarzenegger Says California Will Sue Federal Government Over Emissions Ruling]]> Really, you need to put the whole system on trial. If it's really about emissions, you would make the sacrifice to live closer to work, shop closer to home, demand more efficient public transportation through civic design, and consume less.

You don't have a choice but to drive in CA? Gimme a break. You're the one with the choice.

Most people talk about the environmental issue, but rarely practice it. When you get the urge to use any modern convenience device that consumes energy, think about whether you can truly live without it or not.

Hypocrytical people say they don't have a choice, and continue in the same fashion. They feel good about themselves though, because they are buying into the "green" lifestyle.

]]>
<![CDATA[hotrodmetal commented on Schwarzenegger Says California Will Sue Federal Government Over Emissions Ruling]]> It's all baloney. CARB thinks that the whole country should step in line of their way of thinking on emissions, fuel efficiency, etc..

No one really cares about emissions, or gas prices. If they did they would vote with their pocketbook, or stop driving, or make better use of their feet.

The small amount legislators in Northern CA think they are saving the general public from themselves with these half hearted measures. They think that we are stupid or inept & don't understand that this is entirely political.

I live in CA currently and they are out of touch with the rest of the country on this issue & lot of others. It is still an okay place to live.

There are 300million people in our country. The 30-35million that are in CA doesn't represent the rest and shouldn't be browbeat into following them.

@sled_dog:

]]>
<![CDATA[hotrodmetal commented on California Denied Bid For Stricter Emissions, Schwarzenegger Will Be Back]]> This is funny. CARB is just pissed because they haven't gotten their way this time.
