"@mikeness: I don't follow what your saying.
If you wrote a piece of software as a labor of love and gave it away freely to the community, would YOU be OK with some company coming along, rebranding it under their name as if it they created and then selling it?"
"@whydoyouwork: Well, you have a good question.
It's seems to me that from the Giz article it isn't really clear if they are talking about:
- The average sale price across ALL pc's vs ALL Macs (most PC sales are "entry level" machines)
- The average sale price across all MODELS regardless of the numbers of each model sold, or
- The average sale price of particular Macs vs."
"Yeah, but the PC comes with Vista...
Personally, my favorite operating system is Ubuntu Linux (it's so much more powerful and with a much better user experience, IMHO)."
"My vote for generic data disks goes to foot on sidewalk, BUT
if you have truly confidential data that must be irretrievable, neither the sidewalk nor this disc eraser will do."
"@Kaiser-Machead's Chips Ahoy!: Sure, it only runs at something like 10% the speed of a real mouse brain -- but speeds are doubling approximately every 18 months.
So...
Now 10%
18mo 20%
3yr 40%
4.5yr 80%
6yr 160%
7.5yr 320%
9yr 640% (which should be enough for anyone) :-)
10.5 1280%
That's the thing about advances in computer speed that sneaks up on you."
"He had to Google to figure out that it's a Torx?
He then took it to Apple and asked to borrow their tools so he could do his own upgrade?
No WAY they should have passed him that driver!"
"Both for me!
Laptop: lower power, smaller screen, annoying keyboard and trackpad, but PORTABLE.
Desktop: print server, remote access, file server BIG screen, full-sized keyboard, optical mouse, CHEAP AND POWERFUL, home automation controller system.
I could make do with one or the other -- in which case I'd probably prefer my desktop (but that's a tough choice)."
