K.I.S.S.
The greater point is that this type of grandstanding (on either side of the fence) is retarded and has no place on Gizmodo.
I have respect for you as a writer (dare I say journalist) but is this really the road you want Gizmodo to travel down? Some posts have been so overly editorial in nature (the recent rant admonishing us to not use a case on our cell phones comes to mind) that it appears Giz is more interested in page views and click throughs than the quality of the content.
I'm no blogger and I certainly don't know what it takes to run a successful website, but as a faithful reader/ customer I think it's time for you and Gizmodo to take some inventory.
To the larger question: Yes, there are asshole cops and yes they sometimes abuse their power. I'm not defending the actions of the officer(s) that deleted the files but there does not appear to be any evidence that they were trying to cover anything up, at least not at this juncture.
You can almost bet that Honda will appeal this case and I'm pretty sure they will win. I'm not defending them, but many of their points are valid.
There are certainly situations that warrant the use of force, but this ain't one of them.
The Ranger was a douche and had no right to do what she did under these circumstances.
Tell ya what Jamie, I'll go without a case if you pay my deductible every time my phone is damaged. Even with Gorilla glass, I've had two broken Galaxy S2s in 4 months. I'm not the clumsy type, but shit happens when you have kids who grab everything within reach.
So until someone comes up with an indestructible phone that I actually want to use, I'll continue using a case thankyouverymuch.
