@buick61: Yeah, when I first read this article I immediately remembered a car safety film I watched in high school. It talked about how all of the raised metal switches and knobs were removed long ago because they found out in accidents kids would fly from the back seat directly into them headfirst.
Padded dashes and flush buttons are a lot more friendly.
