My Mocha got clipped by a door in her back leg last week and was limping for a couple days. She had a little trouble getting up the stairs that she normally races up. Other than that, she got around alright, just not as sure-footed and stable as normal. From this, I've deduced that she's AWD. And from the way she races through and around the trees and fences in the back yard, I'm going with an Audi ur-Quattro.
@pauljones: That works initially, until a few people that drive more than 40 miles per day buy one because they are caught up in the hype and buy into the "lie" and start complaining -- loudly -- that the car doesn't perform as promised.
Ray made a good point. The car is still a good car, but by hyping incredible fuel mileage, there are going to be people that are disappointed, and GM will find themselves in the same boat they've found themselves in time and time again, and the boat that helped to sink them 2 years ago.
So, the Volt is a hybrid with a bigger battery so it can go further on electric-only power, different calibration so it can go faster on electric-only power, and a trick gearbox.
It's nothing new, just an improvement. Depending on how you drive it you can get very high MPGs (M/T achieved just shy of 127 mpg). But that all depends on your distance and speeds.
How do you sell a car that is so dependent on distance and speed to achieve the promised performance?
Farewell, you saucy minx. Though I don't visit the ol' Jalop as much as I used to, this was just too important not to chime in. You were one of the OG writers that really attracted me to Jalopnik -- between NPOCP, PCH, DOTS and your other works it was hard for a somewhat off-the-wall, starving for attention car nerd to stay away.
With this ends an era. Good luck to you, Ms. Martin, in whatever adventures life takes you on. Jalopnik will never be the same.
The Boss is an Obama supporter, and wrote him this song:
I bought a car and we drove away I swore I'd make a dollar on it one day And how I made them cry Two faces have I
Sometimes mister I feel sunny and wild Lord I love to see my country smile Then dark clouds come rolling by Two faces have I
One that laughs one that cries One says hello one says goodbye One does things I don't understand Makes me feel like half a man
At night I get down on my knees and pray Our love will make that NASA man go away But he'll never say goodbye Two faces have I
Last night as I drove you ‘round that Willow Road He swore he'd never let his budget unload He said our life was just a lie And two faces have I Well go ahead and let him try
WTFOMGWOW
That might just be the most awesome story I've read all week. Sure, it's only Monday, but I got up at 5:30am.
Mr. Caswell, if you are ever in the Detroit area I'll buy you a beer or ten. Well done!
"...invasive parasite contracted overseas..."
Let's be nice now. V8 Supercars is not invasive or a parasite. It's addictive and druglike, but not a parasite.
Aren't we having the same sheep-like, mass hysteria, knee-jerk reaction to things like corn syrup (since you brought it up), global warming and Bisphenol-A (most of the hysteria on this is based on an initial study that has not been repeated)?
The thing is, people are generally stupid and followers. When there's a crisis we line up behind whoever claims to have a solution. There are people who have learned this -- usually politicians -- and use it to their benefit. If they can take something, blow it out of proportion and create a crisis, then they can gain prestige and power from it.
One of the things hockey fans lament is the no-fighting crack down. Back in the day, each team had a goon or two...an enforcer...that they could send out to let the other team know they weren't going to tolerate any crap. Now, with goons all but banned by the NHL, there are a lot more high sticking calls, and sometimes more serious incidents because players know they will not pay a physical price.
Maybe Edwards is just playing the role of enforcer and letting Keselowski know that he and the rest of the drivers aren't going to take his crap any more and he should start racing a little more respectfully.
