<![CDATA[danio3834 commented on Obama Endorses $4 Billion Automaker Aid Package]]> @mytdawg: I gotta agree with you here. There have been far greater wastes of public money than aid packages for the manufacturing industry.

While I am a staunch anti-socialist, in this case, a loan guarantee would be more capitalist than anything else. If they were to fork over your money for a stake in the control of the companies, that'd be socialist.

The thought of Obama or McCain as leader of the USA frightens me, but it appears that they may be starting to understand some of the real issues.

<![CDATA[danio3834 commented on Do You Have In-Car Air Conditioning? No, Ours Is On-Car!]]> @Elhigh: While landing at Battle Creek airport one day, we were overtaken by a pilot in a Warthog who decided it was his priority to land first.

They are bad ass, especially when coming in right over your head.

<![CDATA[danio3834 commented on What European Cars Should American Car Companies Bring Over?]]> I can't say there are many Euro-exclusive cars that really tickle my fancy that much. The ones I would want brought here, I could never afford. If I could afford them, I'd have the means to import them now. (I'd make it happen).

Everything else, they can keep. My fantasies aren't frugal or diesel powered.

]]>
<![CDATA[danio3834 commented on Dale Earnhardt Takes The New Camaro Sideways With CNBC On Secret Aussie Test Track]]> @Mike the Dog: It is everyone who demanded all the toys, luxurious interiors, and cutting edge, 40-link suspension setups who forced the manufacturers to turn their sporty (sports) cars into heavy pigs.

For every person on Jalopnik who thumbs their nose at the Camaro for being heavy, there would be one or two more who would chastize it for having a lowgrade (but light) interior or "only" having roll up windows.

I gotta say, 3700lbs isn't too bad for a car that has everything.

<![CDATA[danio3834 commented on 1973 Buick Electra 225, With Bonus 1973 Poll]]> $5 gas is still cheaper than a new car. Although this car's yearly fuel bill could buy a nice used car. But that nice used car just wouldn't have the same style, so keep on rollin in that big ole Buick! No one can take your smog exemption away from you...

Except the California legislature. For now anyways, roll in freedom!

]]>
<![CDATA[danio3834 commented on Building The 638 HP LS9 Corvette ZR1 Engine]]> @Nitrous Oxide: In this case, the precision level is very high because the gentlemen assembling these engines are highly skilled to begin with and are extremely aware of what they are doing. One single engineer is responsible for each engine and follows it down the line as it is being put together to ensure everything is done correcly. Then his name is written on that engine.

Now that is quality control.

<![CDATA[danio3834 commented on 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt, Part Two]]> @Mr.Fresco: Thats the beauty in it for me.

When first checking out this car, I mentioned to Ben that the only new Mustang I'd own would be the base V6 with a real engine swapped in.

The Bullit does a good job of that, cept I don't want to pay a premium for that combination.

]]>
<![CDATA[danio3834 commented on Building The 638 HP LS9 Corvette ZR1 Engine]]> @Jake: There is actually very little room for error in that process as compared to a traditional assembly line. All the precision is lost when you speed up the film like that.

For example, all of those air-ratchets you saw them using to assemble the engine are actually computer controlled and programmed to torque each bolt to its proper torque spec. Each torque readong for each bolt tightened is recorded and stored should there be a problem with the engine during final inspection.

In all, these LS9s, as well as the LS7s that are built at the same facility are among some of the most precisely assembled engines in the world.

Those numbers have very little to do with anything meaningful, and have very much to do with playing along with the Greenwashing bandwagon.

<![CDATA[danio3834 commented on 2008 Dodge Charger SRT8, Part One]]> @Conor42: Are we reading the same thread here? We're talking about an SRT8 Charger. There is not 1% malaise in this car. This car is the anti-malaise.

I know Ben put a lot of emphasis on "shit", but when I drove one, I found it really, really hard to find something wrong with this car besides the obvious lack of a proper row-it-yourself gearbox.

Though, there are aftermarket T56 swap kits in the works.

<![CDATA[danio3834 commented on Ferrari-Badged, Chrysler-Powered Open Wheeled "Indy Ferrari"]]> @Kelly: I'm with you. The 3.5 is a pretty decent motor, not like that bastard 2.7L

The HO versions are pretty peppy, they don't have any glaring design faults and tend to last longer than the cars they are installed in. I've spent lots of time with an Intrepid R/T and can say that I appreciated that car more than any of its immediate competition at the time.

In this thread, the only argument against this engine so far as been, "ZOMG its a CHRYSLER! Crush that PIG!"
