<![CDATA[Comments from d4005]]> <![CDATA[Comments from d4005]]> <![CDATA[d4005 commented on Top Gear Officially Coming To NBC!]]> This quote says everything about US TV Networks:
"This franchise is a proven winner worldwide".

Totally wrong!

There's no proven franchise, just a proven show with the particular hosts it has. There's no guarantee whatsoever (implied by the word franchise) that it can be a success with any other hosts.

I'm not saying it won't be good. I remember Adam did a good job on The Man Show, and that had a bit of the kind of feel that a Top Gear show would need.

I certainly hope it is a success, it increases the number of car shows available to watch :-)

<![CDATA[d4005 commented on The Cruise Indoctrination Video Scientology Tried To Suppress]]> I've never heard anyone spend so long speaking without actually saying ANYTHING. Without even getting into my opinions on Scientology, what was it he was trying to say? All the time it was "I gotta do it, and I do as much as I can, and anyone who doesn't try to do it, or to get on board and make an effort etc etc etc".

There were no verbs or nouns in there that made any reference to doing anything specific.

Plus, how on earth (or any other planet) could "they" award him that special medal for bringing the message to a billion people. I've never heard him say a single thing about Scientology ... EVER !! It's like he hasn't wanted to say anything about it, barely even acknowledging publicly that he was officially a crazy (Scientologist).

If he's brought Scientology to a number of people, I'd guess it'd be a number below 100.

<![CDATA[d4005 commented on The Speed Racer Trailer: Prepare to Trip Balls]]> Maybe it's because I never even heard of the TV show it was based on, but that looked seriously bad.

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on What Do You Want in the Fantasy Garage?]]> Wait, it says "what do you want in the Fantasy Garage". It doesn't say anything about cars. In that case my Fantasy garage also includes those cocktail waitresses from "High Stakes Poker".

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on So You Want a Porsche 928amino?]]> Spooky. I'm going to that town tomorrow (where he has that car registered). If I see it, I'll get y'all an exclusive Jalopnik interview ;-)

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on What Do You Want in the Fantasy Garage?]]> Triumph TR7. I thought that was really cool when I was about 10 years old watching "The New Avengers".

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on Live Shots of the A3 Cabriolet]]> I just watched a video of the BMW 1 Convertible. It looked much much better to me. Plus you can get a 300bhp version.

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on Audi R8, Part 2: Welcome To The Racetrack!]]> That Audi attention to detail is legendary. I know a few people who work at the Ingolstadt HQ and they were telling me about all the things that were going on before the Frankfurt show. Things that regular people wouldn't even consider for a second were all given a lot of attention. Clearly it pays off and gets noticed.

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on Fastest Lamborghini Ever, Edo Competition Sets Record in Murcielago]]> I'm not convinced that adding "only" 37bhp will be enough to increase speed from 214.8mph to 224mph.

Once you get to those power and speed figures, you're looking at around 100bhp extra for each 10mph increase.

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on Koenigsegg CCX vs. Pagani Zonda]]> If we're going on looks, performance and cool sounding name then it's the K-egger. I can imagine if I was 12, I might want a poster of the CCX to hide my Heidi Klum poster behind.

On the other hand, if it's ownership we're talking about. Well, I'd want my car to be able to do more than 3 laps without falling apart, blowing a clutch, overheating, losing the back wing and similar things that have happened on both 5th Gear and Top Gear tests with the K-egger, so the Zonda would win if I was spending my $$$$.

<![CDATA[d4005 commented on Abt Audi AS5 turbodiesel ich bin Bat Guano]]> @CEMAN "Given the weight and the fact it is a four-door sedan"
.

Or it could be a two-door Coupe ;-)

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on Abt Audi AS5 turbodiesel ich bin Bat Guano]]> Who's gonna be first to say "5.3 seconds to 60, that ain't so good". It's the other timings where this will kick ass. It'll probably seriously embarrass the S5 in the 30-70mph or 40-100mph timings. I drove a standard A5 3.0TDi (the 240bhp one) and it was brilliant. Although I wasn't tempted enough to buy one, I went for an A6 instead.

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on Exclusive First Pictures of KITT From The New Knight Rider TV Series: Yes, It's a Shelby GT500KR]]> I can think of a good reason for not using a TransAm in the new series. Where are they gonna find the typical "2 cars per show" that end up getting destroyed in stunts?

The original Dukes Of Hazzard show faced the same problem and ended up re-using old stunt footage in the later episodes. It wasn't a coincidence that all those jumps over the river looked the same ;-) So they have to use a current car, and they can easily get a good supply of these (even if most of them are base models with a body kit on them and not actually GT500's).

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on McLaren F1]]> @ST3PH3N - Did Ferrari catch up already with one of their road cars? I say "road cars" to exclude the FXX.

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on McLaren F1]]> What were the options again?
(a) Yes of course it should go in the JFG.
(b) I don't really like cars, why am I here.

It took 12 years for something to beat it on performance, or at least something that can beat it consistently without setting fire to itself or falling apart after 3 laps around the track.

I think it looks the part still too. I prefer it over the looks of a Veyron.

If there was an F1 2.0 for the 21st century, with whatever BMW (or more likely Mercedes now) could supply for an engine, then I doubt the Bugatti would be ruling the roost.

If BMW could deliver 627 horses back in the early 90's, I'm pretty sure that McLaren would have no problems getting one of the German Big 3 to deliver 1000hp to them now, especially if they compromised and accepted a few turbos.

<![CDATA[d4005 commented on Down on the D1 Grand Prix: Ford RS200]]> @Danio - I'm a huge fan of the RS200 and enjoyed greatly watching it driving on the RAC Rally in the UK in the 80's. Replicas though ... MEH !

btw, not an Audi fanboy, I just happen to own an Audi (first one ever) right now.

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on Down on the D1 Grand Prix: Ford RS200]]> >OK, it's a replica.

Then it's not interesting is it.

>But still, it's an RS200

But still, no it isn't.

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on The Zetsche Does Not Need Your Puny American Auto Company]]> Did ANYONE think buying Chrysler was a good idea at the time? I thought it was a stupid and arrogant thing, and quite typical of the Germans in recent times. Just like when the wall was knocked down and the German government said they could very easily handle a sudden influx of 10 million poor east Germans. Eighteen years later and they're still struggling to pay off that integration cost.

<![CDATA[d4005 commented on Porsche Panamera: Test Convoy!]]> I wonder why they'd go to Northern Canada when Sweden is much more accessible (and closer to Stuttgart). You can take almost freeway-like roads right up and well beyond the Arctic Circle.

<![CDATA[d4005 commented on Nissan Sued For Fire Death in Street Racing Accident]]> If they win this case, it'll change everything. How can car manufacturers launch a car knowing that they could go broke with enough claims like this.

It's no surprise that more than two thirds of all the lawyers in the whole world live in the US. Yes, that's 66% of the world's lawyers exist to serve 5% of the world's population. As they say in South Park "that's pretty f*cked up right there".

<![CDATA[d4005 commented on McLaren Shocker (Not): Alonso Out]]> @snep - sure they did the best job they could be expected to with a much slower car. That's the point though, I'd like to see Alonso put in a slower car and watch him fade to obscurity like Barichello has.

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on McLaren Shocker (Not): Alonso Out]]> If anyone's interested, I uploaded (to youtube) a video of Jeremy Clarkson receiving his special achievement award from Lewis Hamilton on Wednesday night. Jalopnik staff didn't seem interested, and didn't report on it.

Search on youtube for jeremy clarkson national television award and you'll find it.

As for this topic, won't it be great if Alonso signs on for a team that has no chance, like Redbull :)

<![CDATA[d4005 commented on Kick A Fantasy Out Of The Garage: Round Two]]> Oh this one was to easy. I didn't even have to read to the end of the list once I saw the first gen BMW M Coupe. Immediate vote.

Same question applies here as on the previous one - who's the woman in this picture?

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on Kick A Fantasy Out Of The Garage: Round One]]> Oh I forgot to ask, who's the bloke in the picture? Is he relevant?

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on Kick A Fantasy Out Of The Garage: Round One]]> Had to go for the Talbot-Lago thing. Man that's an ugly mother. I had to google it just to find an image of it. How did it get voted in when there was no photo on the original vote-in anyway. Maybe it's just me that had never heard of it.

I'm surprised the GNX got so many votes after all the noise made last time about what a travesty it was.

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on Mercedes-Benz 300 SL]]> That question just before the voting buttons is indeed confusing. I had to read it twice. I knew I wanted to vote it in, but wasn't sure if No or Yes should be clicked. I'd drop the wording that asks "Do we really need a No button".

<![CDATA[d4005 commented on What About a Subaru WRX STI Two-Door?]]> Oh great, now we're back to this state where there's no indication whatsoever whether your message is successfully posted. It's not wonder we get double-posts.

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on What About a Subaru WRX STI Two-Door?]]> The days of nice-looking cars are coming to an end. The fact that BMW have had success selling Bangle's ugly beasts seems to have influenced the other manufacturers, hence the bread van.

Nice photoshop job, that would be a much better car to be building.

]]>
<![CDATA[d4005 commented on Denver Deadhead Rampage!]]> When do we get a DOTS spotted by readers? It seems somewhat limited if it's only those spotted by the Jalopnik staff. Imagine the exotic finery the rest of us see. Myself, I spotted an Audi RS2 Avant last week. Rather than rocking horse poop.
