Whoa, that is thinking outside the shoe box!
What's with all the nipples these days?
You've got yourself confused there. One of the reasons people used to buy manuals over automatics is that they could get better performance numbers (acceleration, top speed, etc) from a manual. I was simply saying that this is no longer the case. In fact there is no way a stick shifted car can match the gear change times of today's supercar paddle-shifters. So my point is still very valid.

What I think you mean is that you can get a better driving experience (not performance) shifting the gears yourself. I believe that it is not necessary. Not having to shift gears leave you free to enjoy the other sensory minutiae from the steering feel, handling balance, etc. Just my personal experience.

Times they are a changin'. With drive-by-wire throttles, stability management, torque vectoring, etc, the idea of total control - even in a manual car - is now a myth. In terms of performance and efficiency the latest automatics and dual-clutch autos (in auto mode) are outperforming manuals. Top racing series such as F1 and Le Mans cars use automated transmissions.

In the kind of driving environment here in the US I find little appeal of a manual over a dual-clutch auto. As an enthusiast who has driven manuals most of his life I see the appeal of manuals more as hanging onto nostalgia. I'm far more interested in the performance and handling of a car these days. If a tranny can do a perfectly good job of rowing the gears itself (as is said of Porsche's PDK), I'd rather leave it to do so.

4th Gear: I'm going to make booming business selling fake third pedals for those who can't let go. Seriously people, get over the manual transmission, it's a clutch.. sorry, crutch.

A Ferrari would have been a much simpler option, though it is single-use.
Article mentioned non-military, otherwise the Boeing Chinook would take your Mil-26 on.
As awesome as the car sounds, I always cringe when I see a person hand recording at the wheel. No Ferrari deserves that risk.
How would your like your corner - rare, medium or overdone?
Now why can't morning commutes be as awesome as that!
Run for years and years..
I think the greatest omission from this list of automotive stereotypes, is that automatics do not make great drivers cars. Add convertibles to that too.. And while we're at it add SUVs.
You know that projection feature rumored for the iPhone 5? It's totally been scooped.
okay, who screwed the NSFW meter?
