<![CDATA[buckyworld commented on Jalopnik Visits Hennessey Performance: The Weak Dollar Leads To Some Crazy Cars]]> it's funny how some cars elicit such animosity in those to whom it doesn't appeal. is it the car? or the person animosing?

they make some people angry.

that's all i need from a car !

<![CDATA[buckyworld commented on Polling Confirms Americans Will Not Drive 55, Also They Don't Understand Energy Policy]]> rock517: yes, and atomic bombs don't go off that often either. but when they do, it's catastrophic. point taken?
the shoreline of Prince William Sound still hides oil under every rock, 20 years later. people like you need to dredge up the images again for a reminder. also, there are 5,000 gallon-and-up spills every single day. odd, but you have to go looking to find the news stories.

what's the downside of alternate energy? why NOT start NOW ? don't throw that migrating bird b.s. around: put turbines up NOW and start moving away from the "dinosaur" that is oil. at least, get our homes off oil so there's more for jetskiing and important things.

but i would accept an electric jetski too...

]]>
<![CDATA[buckyworld commented on Polling Confirms Americans Will Not Drive 55, Also They Don't Understand Energy Policy]]> to all who query, "why NOT start drilling in ANWR now?" i remind you of a little something that we Alaskans like to refer to as the "exxon valdez".

i LOVE me some internal combustion, but it's a dirty process from well before the point that my tiger's in the tank.

alternate energy NOW ! why now? because we can....in theory.

it's also why NOT to drill.

time, time, time, see what you've done to me?

<![CDATA[buckyworld commented on Hybrid Technologies Building 220mpg Supercar That's Faster Than ZR1]]> i'm down with the ridiculousness of the rating of PHEV's. i "get" it. but i still bet the hype would be of a hybrid that goes 220mpH. why would they NOT give top speed of a car that is obviously performance biased?

betcha a nickel !

<![CDATA[buckyworld commented on Scott Dixon Takes Pole For 2008 Indy 500]]> i know it's lost some prestige in the last decade or so...okay, LOTS of prestige, but come on guys! it's still one of the most famous events in the world (sporting or otherwise) on a most famous track. it's people doing 226 mph ! what's not to like? okay, i watch and follow F1 more, but Indy is on the mend, and as american racing enthusiasts we should be ...enthusiastic.
once you set foot there, it takes on a whole new dimension. i stopped by during practice week a few years ago when i was in Cincinnati for eye surgery, and i left a stonking-good reverse drop on the infield F1 section in my Hyundai rental that i could see on tv the week of the 500. how many of you have left rubber on an F1 track?? jealous? no, eh? oh. right. shouldn't have told you it was a Hyundai.

<![CDATA[buckyworld commented on What's Your Favorite Example of Caminoization?]]> Murilee, the story with that thing is it's my twice-totalled 99 civic, bought new by me in Ak. it is ugly, and was no longer my daily driver. because i bought it back from insurance after my last crash, there's no title: can't sell it. fixed it up so-so, drove it for 3 years, and parked it.

needed a way to get my bike to the drags. contemplated cutting the Civico up and making a trailer, and then i realized: why? it can be it's own self-propelled trailer, or "truck" as they're called.

number six: the bike is The Tinman. Alaska state champion drag bike last year, and the world's only wet nitrous Honda 919, and the world's quickest honda 919.

video: [video.google.com]

they let me take El Civico down the track one day after a brief shower to help dry the track. 216,000miles on car, original clutch, and it was 1/100 second quicker than a new mini. effin sweet...
