skrooloose: Nope. The 327 was exclusive for Diplomat, but Admirals could be had with 283s... I even think that base Kapitän could be ordered speciall with the V8. And as for the relationship to the US models - the rear half, especially quarter pannels, look like they were stolen from some Chevelle - exactly the same contours. Front end screams "Buick" to me :) As for the appearance - I don't like the small wheels (14"), I want something a little bigger. Other than that, it'll stay as it is. I'm working on a write up about it in English for our friends at Hooniverse...
Well, I think it's time to look at the issue in a more complex way. There are many cars that scream "rock'n'roll" when you see and hear them, but rock'n'roll is too wide a term for a single car to equate to it. No single car can cover rock'n'roll with all its kinds and variations. No, it must be a whole kind of cars - and it can be nothing else than...

... HOT ROD.

Think about it. Both appeared in 1950s and both symbolised the new generation of youngsters and their culture. Both also later evolved into other things, that can be broadly called the same, but in fact they are not. I'm talking rock music, and muscle cars.

So, if we're looking for one single quintessential rock'n'roll car, it must belong to the original, most typical rock'n'roll music, and it must also be the quintessential hot rod. And in the same way there's nothing more rock'n'roll than Rock Around The Clock, there is not, will not and can not be anything more hot rod than '32 Deuce Roadster. These are the ones that started it all, and nothing will ever be more hot rod or more rock'n'roll than these two.

@jduffy13: Actually, you're wrong, too.
First, the term "muscle car" did not exist when those cars were new. They were called "supercars", if something. I don't know exactly when the term appeared from the top of my head, but it was much, much later.
Second, while you're true about pony cars not being the same thing as muscle cars, it's generally considered that Hi-Po pony cars WERE a muscle cars. So, 318 Challenger or six cylinder Mustang is NOT a muscle cars. But Mustang GT or Camaro SS definitely IS a muscle car.
@punksmurph: rednecks would know that the cars can be rear-wheel driven... Those were ricers.
@Maxichamp: Slovakian president is Ivan Gasparovic, you attached Hungarian president's name to him.
Hm. I'm not sure - around here, I wouldn't pay $500 for this, because it's too new. Truth is, I love Octavias and a '59 Octavia 2-door sedan was my first car, and they were one of the last truly good Skodas. But, this one is too new, with ugly rear light from Skoda 100 and no tailfins. So it sucks.
This one is much cooler:

Nice price. If it's true (and according to buyer's history on eBay it probably is) that the guy is a long time, die-hard nut into racing Pontiacs from the sixties, and considering that this thing is probably "the holy grail of drag racing Pontiac", it's definitely not a crack pipe.

And considering that out of 12 cars, none is for sale, none was in recent past and probably none other will be sold in near future, and with the car being the guy's dream, then it may be really a bargain.

Look at it this way - the guy just bought a lifetime dream for just some money he probably can afford just as easily as average Joe can blow $5k...

@Hot_Carl:

Yes.

(Throws rotten tomato, hits Carl in his covered head)

"It looks like the two door windows are here and very nice, but they are not wide enough and I am wondering if there is supposed to be a wing window also."

A car with this line in the ad MUST have my vote.

@layabout: banger racing with costly exotic is British thing. No one in here would take $10k car (after shipping and taxes) to the derby. The Imp will cost it's new owners nearly same amount of money as cheap new car.
@petersterncan: General Lee ain't black, so that don't count.
I know it may be overplayed, but I still think that the essential scary car is 1968-1970 Dodge Charger, painted in black. Blade, Bullitt, F&F, Vengeance Unlimited, Cannonball, Death Proof, Blue Velvet... In all those movies, there is a black Charger. And in all of them, it's driven either by a bad guy, or at least very dangerous one. Good guys don't drive Chargers...

Chargers eat people.

@mechimike: you're true. But 72-73 were a little bigger than this one. And in two-door form, the 72-73 Imp is, I believe, longest coupe ever made. Nearly 6 meters.

Well, the engine needed a tune up, I think it should've lit the tires better :)
Well, thanks to Murilee for a great post, and now a few answers:
1) Price of gas - today I filled up for 28.60CZK a litre or something like that. That would be $2 even 3 months ago, but now that dollar is rising again, it's more like $1.50.
2) Navigating small streets - no problem at all. I've driven a '71 Imperial (the first car I ever imported for someone) in the tight streets of Hamburg, and I've driven several fullsize US cars through the streets of my hometown. And I use 1988 Caprice daily, even parking it in the supermarket parking lots - it fits, barely, but fits. And watching people's reactions when they see old NYC Taxi (my car's got the yellow livery, even with price list), flying sideways throught a junction, it's V8 roaring, is kinda funny.
3) Sure brake, or how was that attempt for an ABS called: Don't know about this one, but the first 71 I imported had it, though it was taken out earlier in it's life. Only thing left was the "computer", some wires and a table in the trunk, with pictures showing how to cut the ABS off should it ever go wrong. That says something about it's reliability...
@SWG: You still didn't convince me it's not a '71 Imperial.
@danio3834:
The rear fender isn't concave, it looks resprayed. And the front looks like it's been hit.

And it's 71 imperial.

@Mike the Dog: Fury's got shorter front overhang, the nose of the car in picture surely looks like Imp. As for the molding on the fender - '72-'73 on your picture has it, but 70-71 doesn't.
And last important thing - look at the C-pillar, visible between two men. It's clear that there's sharp edge on the vinyl and small rear window, not like Fury, that has a bigger window with no "frame" around it.

I spent some time with both 71 Imp and 70 Fury and this thing is too huge to be a Fury. It's Imperial.

All wrong. Only thing you've got right is that it's early 70s C-body Mopar, but neither of you guessed the brand. It's the greatest of them all, the Imperial Le Baron, probably a 70 or 71 model. The hubcaps, the stubby nose with loop bumpers, the position of the side trim and no crease above it (unlike the fury), they all make clear that it can't be anything else but Imperial. Chrysler don't have such stubby noses. And what you see in the back is either a dent or the play of light...

And I am really, REALLY surprised that Murilee did not recongnize it. Murilee knows why :)

Yup, that's more like it. Lambo needs to be orange.

Other than that, it looks good. You know, my favourite Lambo (well, maybe behind Miura) is the Espada. And I like this.
