Wow. Talk about cries falling on deaf ears. Well, I'll stop checking back as of now. Hopefully when management @ Gawker is shaken up, it'll be newsworthy and I'll hear of it elsewhere. I'll bet Engadget loves the new design! :D
Oh well. It sure was fun while it lasted Gawker. 7-8 years. I'll miss you guys. I'm not sure which part of "this blows" you haven't gotten on the other blogs comments, but apparently you're lots more concerned with page hits than loyal reader opinions. I may check back now and then to see if the old format has returned, but take care and thanks! Going to an easier to read/navigate format.
Aw hell no. Et tu Jalop?!? Well, I'll check back every couple of days to see if the old format is back, otherwise, I'll miss you. Good luck! Fucking Gawker.
Yeah - guessing maybe the "classic" link posted in the article is supposed to go here... [retro.io9.com]
(just saw a comment with it) But what a fustercluck!?! What the hell kinda show are they running over here these days?! Retro link saved me anyway. Browse on! :)
You just saved them losing a reader (and my day)! Thanks gazillions. You should repost this throughout the day maybe. Not sure why they posted that "classic" link that looks pretty much identical to the new format... but thanks again! :)
"I'm convinced that this layout was constructed entirely with the iPad in mind..." I'm convinced that it's to maximize page views/clicks. Your first paragraph though, completely spot on. Know any other good sci-fi news type blogs? /tear
Horrible. Where to start... I must have snippets of an article (now gone,) in order to click through, headlines alone rarely garner very little curiosity (for me anyway). This format seems completely and blatantly geared towards generating page views/clicks, as now one must click to really even get an idea of what's in said article.
I fail to see little if any difference in the "via classic view" link.
No "expand all replies" button.
I mean, looks great, but I'll be getting my sci-fi news elsewhere if this format stays.
Re: ads. Adblock Plus addon for Firefox. It's like a DVR for browsers. I don't see any ads. (Still completely hate this format though - seems pretty blatantly geared for more clicks.)
@Neil Hoh: I know there's a few apps that can do a HUD, but pretty sure they're only for bare bones performance/location info (mph, heading, g's, altitude, etc.) thus far.
