I'm not sure whether or not they've started selling the new Explorer yet, but I am very excited about the new 4-cyl Ecoboost engines. The power of a V6 with excellent mpg's. And Ford reliability has been excellent for the last few years, too.
Is it wrong for me to think Pintos are the best-looking Ford product of the Malaise era?
@narf: I can't with you about Alfa reliability, but Nissan is the pinnacle of 1980's styling in my book.
@maximum_sarge: They came from the factory with a blue driver's seat and a grey passenger's seat?
@Tossed Accord Taco Salad all over Malibu's face: I just figured out I was thinking of the Mazda 929. Wow they do look surprisingly similar.

It turns out that the later LH cars were based on the Premier/Monaco!

According to Wikipedia,

"The LH platform was based on the AMC-developed and Renault-derived Eagle Premier. According to "Bob" Lutz, "[t]he Premier had an excellent chassis and drove so dammed well that it served as a benchmark for the LH ... the spiritual father, the genetic antecedent of the LH is the Premier."[1]"
I vaguely recall a Mitsubishi sedan that looked similar to the Premier/Monaco. Anyone know if they were related?
@Nürburgring: The R-SF bridge is known in the bay area as a place you can test the limits of your fast car. The dip in the middle of the bridge allows you to look out for cops a long way back.
@Nürburgring: I think that's the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge!
I find it a little bit strange that a mainstream commercial was retro for a time only 15 years prior. That would be like making a commercial today that is retro for 1995.
Anyone know why hatchbacks usually cost more than sedans? Do they cost more to manufacture? Examples include Mazda3 and Nissan Versa.
Good device to catch tools that you drop while working on the engine. #cardesign
This is one of the few cars that was on my list of hopeful future 1990's DOTS cars. I'm glad I can finally check it off of the list! The others on my 1990's list include: 1) Daihatsu Rocky 2) Daihatsu Charade 3) Hyundai Scoupe 4) Infiniti M30 Convertible 5) VW Fox station wagon 6) Pontiac LeMans - Korean version 7) Mitsubishi Diamonte wagon 8) Mercury Capri roadster 9) the last generation of Isuzu P'up 10) Subaru SVX #alfaromeo
@skaycog: In Six Pack, there is an unusual car parked in the parking lot at the gas station. I think it is a Plymouth Cricket. Or maybe it's an Opel of some sort. Other than the cars, a totally uninteresting movie...
@iantm: I just traded in my 1993 Eurovan for a new no-frills Accent using cash for clunkers. No A/C, radio, power windows, mirrors, or locks. Manual transmission. It feels really solid. Since I park on the NYC streets, I need a car that's new enough to be reliable but cheap enough that I won't care when people scratch the bumper and knock off the side mirrors.
@alowishus:
You're crying about the RX-7, but not about the 1st Gen Prelude on the other side? U kidding?
@ambidextrous pj134:
In my experience, most Cadillac and Lexus owners are approaching sunset very quickly.
@Van Sarockin, rogue trebuchet: It's in the same spot on my 1993 Eurovan.
@Skunky:
The Chevette was better than the Fiesta that Ford sold here. If Ford can bring back the Fiesta moniker, then GM can definitely bring back the Chevette!

Instead of denting the hood, pedestrians get turned into a bloody pulp.
