I'm not sure whether or not they've started selling the new Explorer yet, but I am very excited about the new 4-cyl Ecoboost engines. The power of a V6 with excellent mpg's. And Ford reliability has been excellent for the last few years, too.
It turns out that the later LH cars were based on the Premier/Monaco!
According to Wikipedia,
"The LH platform was based on the AMC-developed and Renault-derived Eagle Premier. According to "Bob" Lutz, "[t]he Premier had an excellent chassis and drove so dammed well that it served as a benchmark for the LH ... the spiritual father, the genetic antecedent of the LH is the Premier."[1]"
@Nürburgring: The R-SF bridge is known in the bay area as a place you can test the limits of your fast car. The dip in the middle of the bridge allows you to look out for cops a long way back.
I find it a little bit strange that a mainstream commercial was retro for a time only 15 years prior. That would be like making a commercial today that is retro for 1995.
This is one of the few cars that was on my list of hopeful future 1990's DOTS cars. I'm glad I can finally check it off of the list!
The others on my 1990's list include:
1) Daihatsu Rocky
2) Daihatsu Charade
3) Hyundai Scoupe
4) Infiniti M30 Convertible
5) VW Fox station wagon
6) Pontiac LeMans - Korean version
7) Mitsubishi Diamonte wagon
8) Mercury Capri roadster
9) the last generation of Isuzu P'up
10) Subaru SVX #alfaromeo
@skaycog: In Six Pack, there is an unusual car parked in the parking lot at the gas station. I think it is a Plymouth Cricket. Or maybe it's an Opel of some sort.
Other than the cars, a totally uninteresting movie...
@iantm:
I just traded in my 1993 Eurovan for a new no-frills Accent using cash for clunkers. No A/C, radio, power windows, mirrors, or locks. Manual transmission. It feels really solid. Since I park on the NYC streets, I need a car that's new enough to be reliable but cheap enough that I won't care when people scratch the bumper and knock off the side mirrors.
@Skunky: The Chevette was better than the Fiesta that Ford sold here. If Ford can bring back the Fiesta moniker, then GM can definitely bring back the Chevette!
