Clearly a fake. The man to the left of the cannon moves, and the shadows outside the window change. Two vids were spliced together.
Or you can try rigging something similar with this for $10.......

I must find a way to buy that MX-5.
Hard to imagine that this guy got a degree in mechanical engineering when his grasp of writing is so terrible.
@buzz killington, uplift mofo party planner: Sometimes appearance is also one's list of considerations. Wider tires on the front would obviously look stupid.
I love me some BMW (I drive a 328is), but this is Crack Pipe territory. This swap would be much cooler in a run-of-the-mill E30 for added sleeper status, and could probably be achieved for well under $10k.
@SV1000Dos: It seems that very few do...
I love how so many of you don't recognize that wing from the E36 M3 factory lightweight (a car that eats daft punks like you for breakfast). It may be ugly, but it was OEM, and functional on the track.
It should be said that KBB and NADA are not good (i.e. accurate) indicators of collector car value. I voted 'Nice Price'. And despite the mileage, this car looks pretty clean and would be a total blast to drive. For that, I say it's worth the asking price. E30s rock.
@long_live_the_E36: Meh, that's all very easy DIY stuff. Keep in mind that sedan M3s are always considerably less expensive than the coupes. I just bought a pristine '98 328is 5-speed with 94k miles on the clock, and in doing basic preventative maintenance, I have found that E36s are incredibly easy cars to work on and maintain.
For me, probably the BMW E36 M3 sedan. You can get them in pretty good shape for under $10k now.
Despite the fact that I could have bought a much newer car, the idea behind this post is why I just bought a 12 year old BMW 328is coupe 5-speed. Sure, it's more complex than many cars, but it's pretty basic compared to what's out there today. It's easy to work on, relatively lightweight, and generally ticks all the right boxes in the performance/handling sector.
@Tanshanomi: If you spend any time around dealerships, you will quickly find that dealerships (specifically salesmen) know very little about cars. I can't tell you how many times I've asked salesmen questions about new cars they sell (when I already know the answer), and gotten TOTALLY wrong info. That's the rule, not the exception. Salesmen are just business people, and are rarely car people.
@gman1023: I think the important point is not about actual monetary value, but rather historical value. As the owner of a classic car, I understand better than most that it is very common to spend more restoring a car than it is/will be worth. We do it because we love the car, not our bank account.
I dunno... A BMW 8 series is pretty special in my book. Definitely a timeless design that demands respect on the road. And definitely more "exotic" than a Ford pickup truck, regardless of who tuned it.
Ray, Thank you! This is much needed, and I'm 100% behind your statement. I can't tell you how bored I had become with flipping between auto sites, only to see the same press release or car review. What a trap that is... It's time to reinvent Jalopnik by looking to the past as well as the future (cheesy but true). One idea I have is to do road tests of vehicles that are not necessarily new. I'm sure the Jalopnik readership has more than a few awesome cars in the stable. Having "feature car" pieces would be rather interesting. Best of luck. I'll do my part here as a commenter, and while out on the streets with camera batteries full. It's time for a revolution.
@FrankRizzo: As is typically the case with Ferrari dealerships, most (if not all) of the cars at this location are pre-owned. But that doesn't really mean anything as far as I'm concerned. They were all kept in climate controlled garages nicer than my bedroom anyway. I thought I read somewhere that the average wait for a NEW Ferrari is well over a year.
@oddfish: Yeah, but the summers are nothing but sunshine. Seattle has a surprisingly vibrant collector car community. Lots of cool stuff on the road from April through September.
Man, I have to travel more. This is great. #bugattiveyron
