@Adamskiy, as seen on TV!: Because there is a roof that would make shooting the interior from that angle impossible.
Well, it's on Jalopnik and it almost certainly wouldn't have been otherwise. So, however hamfisted the execution, the result is positive. Nice one, intern.
An Arctic Cat Thundercat 1000 motor would be pretty hilarious, but then I'd have to advocate for maintaining a track drive. If he wants to keep it Italian, and his heart is set on motorcycle, then maybe something from our good friends at Ducati would work.
Well ok. It's not an SUV. But your mention of the Bronco intrigues me. A retro-y Bronco on the Ranger platform with a removable top and folding windshield would be the perfect thing to start cannibalizing Jeep sales. The development cost would be low and they would sell.
@Bad Juju and the Axle Tramps: If you buy an old one and do the work yourself, Porsches can be as cheap as anything else.
I once had the privilege of driving my little brother's '89 Dodge Caravan for a few months. It's rear window was busted out and it was a little rusty, but there is something about a vehicle that does exactly what it is designed to do that one can't help but appreciate.
@Travis Kittlitz: This one time, at band clamp, I stuck an LS7 in my Exige.
$15k buys a hell of a nice 911 without the foldy top and ugly hood.
That is a Lada motor right there! Man, the parts I could use off of that thing...
I can't say I know this particular car, but if it's like 99% percent of race cars, especially race cars that had any kind of success, it's already been wrecked several times, probably more severely than we see here too. No big deal.
They went the direct drive route, got the car rolling for quite a few more laps and then the whole thing went blew up and shot flames into the cabin with about 14 minutes left in the race. AWESOME.
Thanks Battles. And, thanks for this too.
That was supposed to look like this:
