<![CDATA[TRAMS_AM commented on How GM Killed The Crossover: The Brief Life Of The Chevy XT-2 Concept Truck]]> @P161911: You're correct, $26K was dealer cost, more or less. At the end of '04, especially in states that get snow, the discounts were pretty big. Southern and Western states saw much less discounting.

Anyone claiming they paid less than $26K likely included the $3000 back and 2.9% financing that showed up in late '04 Combine that with GM card cash and employee or supplier pricing, and things got pretty cheap.

That was not, however, the norm.

Some dealers with '05's were more willing to get rid of them, remembering the slow moving '04. Many dealers stayed firm on the price when the LS2, scooped GTO came around.

]]>
<![CDATA[TRAMS_AM commented on How GM Killed The Crossover: The Brief Life Of The Chevy XT-2 Concept Truck]]> @Rock517: The Monaro sold for around AUD $64K, which at the time ended up being around USD $44K. It was de-contented to make the ~$30K price point (about what a WS6 went for). We lost side impact airbags, digital climate control, sunroof, and a few other extras. We did, though, get a bigger cam in our LS1's and the LS2 in '05 and '06 which was exclusive to the HSV Coupes.

The Camaro comes from the same place.

It sounds like Heaven, yes, but it's actually a company called Holden.

<![CDATA[TRAMS_AM commented on Dale Earnhardt Takes The New Camaro Sideways With CNBC On Secret Aussie Test Track]]> As a GTO owner and Holden enthusiast, I was unable to publicly endorse the Camaro concept as the Goat was often ridiculed for it's appearance, and the Camaro lauded for it's retro look. As a long time F-body owner, I secretly hoped the Camaro would bring honest, inexpensive, and visible RWD hoonage back to GM.

Now that Holden has made a Camaro, peace has returned to me.

<![CDATA[TRAMS_AM commented on Gratuitous 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Burnout Photo]]> @Parramore64: The world changed. A moth farted somewhere and two months later crude was at $150. Celebrities, bored with Darfur, began to notice that the weather was getting warmer, especially during the spring and summer months. It wasn't enough anymore if you made sure your Snickers wrapper ended up in the bin, and you had to make a lot of noise about all the good you were doing so the Inquisition wouldn't come and take your petrol leaf blower. There was no place for Hoons in this world. No place for their selfish, antisocial behavior. Policies were put in place, and research was done after the fact to justify them. Radar cameras, positioned every two kilometers were installed at the cost of $14 a household. Noise sensors were put in place discreetly, posing as small shrubs or mailboxes as not to disturb the natural aesthetic of suburbia. The last blow, certainly, was the no-tolerance vehicle crushing initiative. After a time, perhaps five years, the ambience of the multi-lane arteries became a constant, uniform drone. The earth of the alloy recycling complexes developed a red hue, saturated with Dex-Cool.

<![CDATA[TRAMS_AM commented on Production 2010 Chevy Camaro Revealed!]]> @jmcg: Even though the LLT HP ratings are close to early F-body LS1 ratings, I expect that the LS1 is 30 to 40 HP (and just as much ft/lb) over the LLT. The '02's with the LS6 manifold were putting down 320+ HP to the wheels.

I, too had a LS1 4th Gen. Remember what it was like in '98 when the LS1 was brand new and there wasn't anything in that price range that could touch it? The mullet jokes stopped for a little while, at least.

They've got DoD working with the TR6060? How accurate is this info?
