<![CDATA[Comments from TJE61]]> <![CDATA[Comments from TJE61]]> <![CDATA[TJE61 commented on What Car Would You Like To Get Arrested in?]]> I'd want to get arrested going 175 in the Delorean from Back to the Future. You know why? It took me a while to come up with this one,it's brilliant (I'm hoping to get a star from this, of course hoping for the star will automatically disqualify me from getting one - okay, i'm not hoping for a star).
Here it goes - I could go back in time after getting arrested and then when i come back to real time and I'm going 175 again, i would know where the cop was and slow down, therefore avoiding getting arrested.
see, i told you it was brilliant.

<![CDATA[TJE61 commented on What's The Least You've Ever Paid For A Car?]]> I got my first car for free. A friend graduated college and his car was such a POS he couldn't sell it, so he gave it to me; a 73 Plymouth Duster with a "3 on the tree," bald tires, and an AM radio. Shifting from 2nd to 3rd it sounded like the transmission was going to fall out. For some reason I decided to buy physical damage coverage. I drove the Duster for six months until, on a rainy day, a lady blew a stop sign in her Cadillac Sedan De Ville; having what amounted to slicks, I hit the brakes, slid and T-Boned her, totaling my car. Truth be told it was probably only about $50 away from being considered a total before the accident.
I ended up getting $600 from my insurance company, not a bad deal.
I replaced it with a 71 Plymouth Scamp that I bought for (I think) $400 from a little old lady that came into the bank where my Mom worked. That Scamp was a nice car. I'd love to have it today to give to my son when he starts driving in a couple years.

<![CDATA[TJE61 commented on What's Your Favorite Ugly Car?]]> How about the Mosler Consulier GTP that had the split windsheild? Not a pretty car, but it was a hell of a race car.

<![CDATA[TJE61 commented on Chevy To Get New Michigan-Made Minivan Based On Opel Zafira]]> We rented one of these for a family trip through Ireland two summers ago. It was a manual (the cost difference to rent a manual vs automatic is huge), and while not a speedster, it was fine; definitely a nicer drive than your typical minivan. It is also smaller than a typical minivan; it was a bit tight for 2 adults and 3 kids & luggage.

<![CDATA[TJE61 commented on 1987 Merkur XR4Ti]]> This was a very cool car when it first showed up. I test drove and thought about buying one, but bought a 16V Scirocco instead. The Merkur was a very different looking car when it first came out, I liked the twin spoilers. I'm not sure if this inspired the twin spoilers on the Mustang SVO, or vice versa (I don't remeber which car came out first). Both were unusual cars for Ford with turbocharged 4 cylinder engines.
Of course Ford screwed the Merkur up by selling it in Mercury Dealers. How many peopkle in the US knew that Merkur was german for Mercury? They then introduced a big Merkur Scorpio semi luxury sedan which, I think, confused people about what a Merkur was suppossed to be.
Anyway, I still like the looks of it. Beats the hell out of a Tempo (which I had as a company car at one point, what a pos).

<![CDATA[TJE61 commented on 1976 AMC Pacer X]]> What really put the Pacer on the map was John Denver driving one in the movie Oh God. Terri Garr played Denver's wife, and to me (in middle school at the time) she was, what they would now call, a milf. Anyway, there is something endearing about the Pacer. AMC had a habit of making odd looking cars; remember the Matador and the Gremlin? We had a babysitter that described the Gremlin as looking like it a cute little car that had its' "ass kicked in." Have we had any matadors, or gremlins in DOTS?

Took the words right out of my mouth. What was Ford thinking?

<![CDATA[TJE61 commented on 1985 Peugeot 505 STI]]> I thought about buying a used 505 back in the late 80's until I drove it; what a dog. We had a neighbor back then (he was from New Zealand, so you know he was a bit off) that had a 405 and a 505; he swore by them.
I think the styling on the 505 still looks good.

<![CDATA[TJE61 commented on PCH, Rear-Drive Japanese Luxury Edition: Q45 or 929?]]> I had a 94 Q45 that my wife totalled. It was a great sleeper car. Very sedate looking, but it went like hell. It had a manumatic which had great gearing for downshifting. The thing was bulletproof, but tuneup's were a killer, about $600. Could be an expensive project car, but definitely way cooler than the 929.
