i feel compelled to tell people that Chris Burden also is known as a performance artist that once shot himself in the arm for some sort of statement, and also crucified himself to the top of a VW Beetle for 2 minutes. since i went to art school, then i have the authority to say that "performance art" is bullshit. and people like Chris make lots of money by doing wasteful things like this.

eh, i kinda believe he had trouble negotiating. my mother's house has been in foreclosure for 2yrs now. there have been FIVE offers on the house (asking price) and the bank has ignored all of them. 3 foreclosure hearings they were a no-show and the last one an attorney showed up but could not contact the lender for ANY information. the way it has been explained is the lender would rather have a house in limbo than as an asset on the books. somehow through some screwed up process they get tax breaks for this mayhem.
maybe i'm missing something. but since when is $23k "cheap"?

@Cheeseslap: Loves me some Neons: here in indiana we get the luxury of paying property tax for our homes. yes, if you own your house outright you still have to pay taxes on the property it sits on every year. and if you don't? they seize your house. our property taxes got so bad the past couple of years that there were actually senior citizens that lost houses they owned for generations because they could not afford the property taxes on them. yay govt!
