Does it do super-slow motion, like 300+++fps?
I've been patiently waiting for a semi-affordable digicam that'll do this, but doesn't seem to be much new since the 3 year old Exilim

hey bud sorry my post sounded so snotty. "Terrible" was too harsh a word. Watching some of the clip again it's clear the steering rack is EXTREMELY slow, as shown in the screen grab from a turn that's not at all tight. You've kept your hands in the proper place in the top one.

I haven't driven the 5 in an auto-x or track (yet!), but in my 308 (which has a quick ratio rack) and my CRX it's quite possible and advantageous IMO to not shuffle the hands around the wheel, grasping it in various locations.

Love GTV6s BTW, my dad had an Alfetta and it was much fun to throw around the back roads.
salud!

cool video, cool cars, cool road, terrible steering wheel hand placement by Alfa driver. A quicker steering rack would be useful, but for god's sake man no need to move your hands from 10-2 unless you're going around a hairpin. Watch and learn from the BMW driver.
4WD: great for acceleration, jack shit for stopping. Nice evasive driving and nice luck, but get some damned winter tires and take it a bit easier in such crap conditions!
yes! Sliding doors are one of the main reasons I just bought a Mazda 5. The other reason: 6-sp manual.
No kids yet, just wanted a practical, fun to drive hauler to replace the 5.9L Grand Cherokee.
Thanks, that makes me feel better.
3 months ago we bought a '12 Mazda 5 with the suddenly obsolete, MZR 2.5L. Power and torque are fine (as is the 6-sp manual tranny), but now that Skyactive motors and their 30++mpg are rolling out I've been suffering a bit of buyer's remorse. I can sleep easier with our 5's 25-27mpg thinking that the new DI motors aren't quite as great as they're being made out to be....
I was all set to nominate the Alfa B.A.T. (any of them except the modern one), but stumbled on this little Beauty: The Alfa Disco Volante SPIDER.
Greatest. Car. Name. Ever. Period.

yeah, that's the upside I guess....
cool article, never knew about this.

Wars are such a waste of money, resources, and genius but I can't help but be fascinated by the men, machines and stories.
Been reading about the Bismarck recently, so plunked down $38 on an RC version to terrorize the fish. I need a bigger pond...
my 5.9 Grand Cherokee?

*price has been lowered to $3950 BTW ;)
No sorry I don't, found the pics on Redpepperracing.com some time ago.
Someday if I run out of other things to fill my time I'd love to do something similar with a 1st gen CRX, or the hatchback like above.
A little V6 in the back of a X1/9 (if there are any left) would be another fun project.

Cool - wish I could get a Smart Roadster here in the US. Love them! Your westfield is a caterham-type car I assume? A buddy of mine who lives near the Ring has a Westfield 11 with an Alfa twin-cam motor. It's his raid car - in the dry he rides an R1. Fun stuff
Range Rover maybe? lol I think I almost crashed earlier in the lap waiving thanks to someone, so kept both hands on the wheel for the rest of it :)
oh yeah, LOL @ the Mustang going backwards in miss-hit-miss curve.... I said STEP ON IT Bubba!
It's cute Jalopnik is just now figuring out that track knowledge>hp on the 'Ring.

I once overtook a 911 RS through the approach to Fuchsrohre in a diesel VW beetle cab. With three passengers. Top down.

Here's part of a lap (first of the morning after a long closure cause by an M3 flipping off the track after Hatzenbach, track still mostly wet/damp) I did in a 90hp Smart Roadster.
Think the final tally was:
Smart Roadster: 3
(2) Elises: 0
BMZ M Coupe: 0
WRX: all of us

LOL @ the Corvette in Kesselchen going backwards.
Come on Bubba STEP on it!

PS: the Renault and Porsche are well into "better have a fucking rollcage" speeds.
all 1st gen SHOs were great, but the pick of the litter was the '89
go for the one with sliding doors! :)
The 5 is ridiculously practical, and a true handler.
This week I rented a loaded Dodge Caravan and it was undoubtedly quieter, more powerful and larger inside. But it's also about 1000lbs heavier, $10k more, and much wider/taller on the outside.
Ever since Ford axed the 7 passenger C-Max in the USA the 5 is in a niche of 1.
