<![CDATA[Mrb00st commented on ATTENTION: Engines Do Not Need To Run In Reverse To Make Your Car Go In Reverse]]> see, this is sad on a deep level to me. It's obvious what happened here: What he have a is a true dyed-in-the-wool car guy, I guy who eats sleep and breathes the art of the automobile, and somewhere along the way when someone who knew was explaining it to him, he got confused Maybe he never grasped the idea of a reverse gear and what it does. Who knows. But it's sort of sad to me, you know? Like he's been going gung-ho at learning to Jalop, but someone has guided him wrong and made him the black sheep of the heard. I really feel for him. It's like having your hopes crushes, like learning your girlfriend is pregnant and you're still like 19, it's like learning that they just made cancer airborne and infectious. When he sees this post here, I really think the pain and anger- anger that can only be aimed at oneself - will be comparable to those other things. We've all been there. We haven't understood something even when we so sure we were fuckin' Ace, on top of our game, the best in the business (POLAR!) that fall from grace is a steep one.

But it'll get better. He'll learn from it, and learn something else as a result of learning that - the learn himself down into the details, like a tree spreading its roots, and soon he won't be a n00b but a n3rd. He will have the respect of his automotive community as he rightly deserves for his hard-earned improvement. He will lead off cross-rival meets between the SRT-4's and Cobalt SS S/C owners to bring relations between the warring party to ease (are you listening, israel?)

Years down the road, because of this little kick-start, he'll be the "guru" in some field, the guy people call when they are confused as fuck. Life'll be good. He'll daily drive a Lexus and probably will have some Toy in the garage for tinkering with. It'll end well, hopefully.

Then again... this guy is a goddamn n00b on the scale of the whole direct exhaust injection thing, who clearly needs a coach around him to remind him to breath, and should probably never touch a car, ever. It's really alarming. %O(*&in' n00b! sheesh.

<![CDATA[Mrb00st commented on What Kind Of Super-Rich Car Buyer Would You Be?]]> well honestly, I'd probably have a very large amount of cars, but only a few of them would be new, or new-ish. There would be some newer ones, sure, just to have something nice to drive to work, but the ones I'd really enjoy would be all the old weird stuff I've wanted forever. Since I had a lot of money, they'd all be tuned and/or at least working right, depending on how difficult that would be. I suppose my garage would be a nice mixture of interesting cars like Leno's, but without all the old American Muscle - maybe a few, but it's just not really my thing.

Daily drivers: Saab Turbo X Sportcombi 6M, MKV VW R32, BMW 135i, and probably an E320 BlueTec for long trips
Towing vehicle: Dodge Ram 3500 HD 6.7 Cummins with mild modifications (of course)
Race cars: highly modified, turbocharged first-gen Miata for autocross. Maybe a BRE Datsun 510 for classic racing
Weird projects: A running, modified Merkur XR4Ti. a 300+whp Volvo 850 T-5R estate in bright yellow. A 330+whp Saab 9000 CSE Aero, dark green. Acura NSX with a full exhaust system. 80's Lotus Esprit with a Mitsu 4G63T or 4B11T. Beck Porsche 550 Spyder replica with Subaru EJ25ET. Volvo 780 Bertone coupe with an LS3 and a T56.

etc etc etc

I like what I like, I wouldn't let the amount of money I have change that.

<![CDATA[Mrb00st commented on 1976 Buick Regal]]> it can't be as bad as the Jag I see now and again in chapel hill. It's a '96 XJR (with that fantastic supercharged six-cylinder motor), with GIANT gaudy 20" chrome spinner wheels, CANDY APPLE GREEN PAINT WITH GOLD METALLIC FLECK IN IT, and enough subs in the back that the entire trunk rattles. Driver needs to be drawn and quartered. Then again, it's a mid-ninties Jag so i think he's going to get what's coming to him in his good time.

<![CDATA[Mrb00st commented on Does Every Vehicle Need A "Performance Version"?]]> no, obviously not. I think for there to be a good case for a performance version, the basic chassis has to be decent. BMW realizes this, which is why there aren't bonafide M-versions of the X3, X5, X6, and 7-series. I mean, who really wants a high-winding, hard-riding race-car 7-series? It would make no sense.

Of course sometimes ridiculous performance versions of really crappy cars can be fun. examples:

-Dodge Neon SRT4
-Dodge Caliber SRT4
-Chevrolet Cobalt SS
-Mercedes Benz G55 AMG Supercharged
-Alpina B7

etc etc.

but no, no one needs a performance cargo van. That's just plain stupid.

I like the IS-F; I think the IS's basic shape is gorgeous and it's got the right powertrain layout. An M3 competitor from Lexus makes perfect sense to me. For a first effort, the IS-F is killer.

<![CDATA[Mrb00st commented on KBB Names Ten Best New Road Trip Vehicles, Family Truckster Suspiciously Absent]]> Audi TT 1.8T Quattro makes a nice road trip car with two people. My friend and I drove from Raleigh to a show in the mountains in Northern Georgia this weekend. Back seats out, we managed to fit all of our clothes, toiletries, a tent, two sleeping bags, car detailing equipment, and other stuff. It gets about 32 mpg when you're cruising and not in boost.

And with the Unitronic chip and the turbo spooling to 21 psi, you don't even need to get out of fifth to pass the slower traffic!

the coilover suspension was less than comfortable, but hey... what're you gonna do.

I agree though, it's all about what you've packed and who you're with.

Of course the car left us stranded in south carolina on the way back, so... perhaps not the best choice.

]]>
<![CDATA[Mrb00st commented on What's Your Favorite Sub $15K New Vehicle?]]> A NEW car under 15? Frankly, no. The best cheap car is a Honda Fit Sport which comes in 270 dollars above your 15,000 threshold - that would be the cheapest new car I would buy. So no, no Hyundai Accent. No Kia Rio.

I would pirkc up a three year old low-mileage RSX Type S or GTI VR6 for that price, thank you. I wouldn't WASTE 15,000 of my own hard-earned dollars on a car I hate just have a new one. That's silly.

I suppose if forced I'd get one of the small Scions - the xD, with the 1.8L engine. At least it'd get good fuel economy and be useful. But still, urgh, no thanks.

<![CDATA[Mrb00st commented on PCH, Fun With Honda Engines Edition: NSX-Powered Legend or Turbo Civic?]]> wait, wait... the Legend is longitudinal engined? I have been a car nerd for YEAR and was never aware of that

and I'm going to say it's not a C32b for one simple reason: anyone who lives that far out in the middle of bumf*** nowhere and is drunk all the time most likely doesn't have the money for an NSX motor, much less all the custom-fab work required to stuff it into an old Legend. And even if he did, who would really be dumb enough to waste all that money?
