@LS1RX7owen: the drag package cars start at 3200#'s. they made some of the stuff lighter, but added in the heaviest engine Mopar has. so it is probably a wash. #dodgechallenger
@nataku8_e30: they're using the heavy as lead cop wheels. I bet the A/C is gone, but they left the power steering on there to help get it on and off the trailer easier. #dodgechallenger
I like looks of this car a lot. and it's the little details that make it, like the glowing red eyes in the rams head of the dodge badge. It makes me want to take a sawzall to my car to get the weight out of it. #dodgechallenger
that's not an Omni, that's an 83-87 Charger.
where did you get your challenger number from? those aren't the numbers the dodge advertises:
[www.dodge.com]

the SRT8 with the auto gets 13/19mpg, with the manual it gets bumped to 14/22mpg.
the RT Challenger has the 5.7L engine that gets 17/24mpg

@Mookinator: and since the neon was released in 1994, 4 years before Chrysler was bought by Daimler, it was also designed back before Chrysler had any foreign ownership.
congrats on the mustang's win.

too bad neon's were built in Belvedere, Illinois.......
guess that's not good enough to be considered American.

@engineerd:

don't worry. i'm sure most of those cars only existed inside a computer anyway.

i really didn't think i was that hungover until i read this article.
think of this car akin to a Ford Model R.
It's Tesla's first offering. And it's doing what the Model R did, showing people just how viable it really is. Once Tesla comes out with their own Model T, electric cars will be ready for prime time. Having come down in cost and gone up in reliability.

I agree it's not all it's cracked up to be, but it's quite a good leap in the right direction.
