One of my favorite racecar profiles of all time. What's best about it is the restraint shown in the number of lines used-it's not all "slash here and crease there". And just look at that greenhouse! It doesn't hurt to have cool/unsual colors, either (yes, I like purple).
Sam, you may not have had the chance to drive the Gumpert anyway. It actually was damaged, only on the previous day at Monticello. Indeed, it is the only one stateside...
I don't know if anyone else has yet noticed: the schwingin' driver of the truck is also dispensing silly string out of the window. Check out the left front wheel of the Nissan Versa the final time that car makes an appearance in the clip; the stuff sticks to the car's wheel cover.
@smackela: The video depicts the impact starting somewhere on the rear bumper-it's definitely a tirewall (see car's new paint scheme in picture), which "grabs" the chassis and rotates its left side parallel and into the barrier. Due to the damage to the doors (pressed into the cage), etc., perhaps this was the highest-g point in the crash and the column flexed enough to crush the wheel into the roll structure?
@Ben Wojdyla: Well... that sucks. The other panel gaps look good, again except where the bumper covers meet the fenders/quarters-they don't seem entirely flush (but close, at least).
@85_Grand_National: The interesting thing is that taxpayers have been paying NASCAR sponsorships since 2002 through the Army (though in an arguably more useful manner).
@area_educator: Of course, NACA ducts will work either way, depending on whether the aim is to suck air in or suck air out-based on the picture of the black car it looks like the latter.
