Imagine the 70's with this on the road...
If you think the Cosworth Vega engine offers disappointing performance, consider the GM RC2-206 Wankel rotary engine that was supposed to be the engine of the future for the Vega. GM was all about rotary engines in the late 60's and early 70's. At one point the next Corvette was going to be both mid-engined AND rotary powered (pic in reply).

Then Ed Cole retired. Soon after, the last bastions of GM innovation left with him and by the end of the decade poorly converted Oldsmobile V8s were ruining a generation for Diesel power.

Can't do the Mazda blue for personal reasons. Nor can I do silver (a friend already has one). #oppositelock
My hovercraft is full of eels indeed.
If, as Dany Bahar claims, "Less is more", does than mean that all those new models Lotus unveiled in Paris a couple years ago that will never see the light of day are what infinity looks like?
Can't be. That isn't a handicap spot... #oppositelock
I think you're right on the longevity. The motor was based on the Cosworth EA racing motor and I'm sure that had to do a bunch of things to make it last longer than race distance. A shame.
I'm going to second the engine in the Cosworth Vega, but not for the reason you give. The Cosworth Vega engine isn't disappointing because it came in the Vega, but because it was supposed to come out a couple years before and the earlier prototypes were putting out 170 horsepower. By the time 1975 came around, the ancient emissions controls of the time choked it down to the 140 horsepower while 5 MPH bumpers ruined the looks of the car.
The discussion of the HANS device on the front page:

Got me thinking about Patrick Jacquemart and the IMSA GTU Renault Le Car he raced. Wow. #oppositelock

Agreed. I've seen plenty of bigger hits where the driver walked away without the benefit of a HANS device. That being said, I wouldn't get into a race car today without one.
Same here. I came into the episode expecting to be a retread but I was pleasantly surprised that it had the nubs of a fresh take on the subject.

"When I put bullets in it, Daddy, it gets too heavy."

Fantastic

This came across on my Facebook the other day... #oppositelock
Even with the damage a one owner, documented TDI has some value. I know what I wanted for the car before. I may see what can get now and go poking around for the difference. #oppositelock
I had to put my Alex down just over two years ago. I know I'm not ready to watch this. #oppositelock
Oh yes. It was my mother-in-law's significant other and it was definitely his fault. It was parked in the driveway when he backed into it. But that is the problem; we only have liability on the car and we're trying not to file a claim with their insurance company. They've said that they'll pay, and while I want the car fixed right I'm just not sure at this point that I want to sink that kind of money into a 9 year old car with 200k on it, reliable or not. #oppositelock
I'll be there myself, in the North Paddock with the Hippy Van. Even with the motorhomes there are plenty of good places to watch from. It is a party to expect to have fun.

If you like Mexican food, Don Jose's is about 15 minutes from the track and does a pretty good job. #oppositelock
