Oh nice, this is in my home town.
Couple of points for the seller:
-You did a good job of covering the front plate!! But what about the back one?
-I don't think that is a 6 cyl.
Well, my grandfather had a Porsche 356c, and my grandmother an '80 BMW 528e (forgive me bimmer folks, I don't know the proper term for that body style).
I'd say it had more to do with those than my parents' Corolla and Civic of that era. Although my mom did have a VW Bug for a little while in there.
@MushyHeirloom: Yeah, see that's my problem. I leave them on 24/7 in the 245, so I have to think twice in the 242.
Your Saab buddies also have the magical headlights. Must be a Swedish thing. Something about very long periods of darkness.
I guess, where rust kills 240s in the Northeast, smog kills them in California.
We don't even smog old cars here in Mass, so my 240s don't have to worry about that.
They are not, however, impervious to the tin worm.
To right these wrongs, this afternoon, I helped my friend put a new exhaust on his 245, and he helped me change the tranny mount and solve my high idle on my 245.
Doin' my part to keep them on the road!
@MushyHeirloom: Haha. My '82 242 does not have those power locks and I have to constantly remind myself so I don't lock my keys in the car. The '88 245 does.
Also, it doesn't have headlights that turn on and off with the car - gotta remind my self of that too.
@MushyHeirloom: We could probably make a killing if we shipped them here to New England and sold them.
Both my 240s have spent their entire life in New England (one's 28, one's 22) and they aren't that rusty, but damn! I'd love to have a 100% non-rusty one.
I'm so glad the Jalops are taking up this cause. I started driving Saabs 8 years ago, and have always owned a c900 or two, in one in some form or another since. My favorite, of course, was my black '89 SPG with rear window louvres that I rocked in college. I have a '99 9-3 3-door right now.
I mostly own old Volvos now, but I really want Saab to survive, and plan on buying a new, quirky one in the near future.
@MushyHeirloom: This as I spent a warm Xmas Eve applying POR-15 to my '82 242 and '88 245.
The 242 is surprisingly rust-free for a car that spent its entire life in NH.
Btw, anyone else notice that the font in the comment editing window seems to be the same font 240 is written in on the back of our cars?
We really need to invest in a shipping trailer and start sending these to the Northeast. We'd do anything for rust-free 240s up here.
You barely even see 240s in junkyards anymore.
I've been following the Saab saga for a while, and I must say, I don't think this is the "end of Saab" news that you think it is. I think BAIC is simply just producing older Saabs for the Chinese market in the same way that they make old Peugeots for Africa, or Beetles for Mexico.
You can read more about it here: www.saabsunited.com
240k on an '88 Saab 900.
My current (well one of two) daily driver has 214k. Yep, it's an '82 Volvo 242DL. Should make it to 300k no problem - just a matter of when. #qotd
