The photos show him going 100 and 114 in a 65 zone. Safely? I'm not sure about that - the car's 42-year-old American iron. (Maybe he upgraded the suspension and brakes.) Empty? Don't you see the other cars in some of the photos? Middle of the night? The time stamp on the photos is 8:2x PM.

<![CDATA[Hyman Decent commented on NY Times Calls Hillary-Endorsing Sarah Fisher IRL's "Top Woman"]]> @ViergangFuchs: Wow, did Danica Patrick kick your dog or something?

I will say that I caught Patrick's appearance on The Late Show following her win and it was almost painful to watch.

]]>
<![CDATA[Hyman Decent commented on NY Times Calls Hillary-Endorsing Sarah Fisher IRL's "Top Woman"]]> Everyone, the caption as posted here was changed from what it said when I emailed the tip; it did say the top and not merely a top. Furthermore, it said the same within the body of the article (which I read after sending in the tip).

I just checked that Web page again. A different picture now accompanies the article and the text in the article now reads race car driver Sarah Fisher, a leading woman driver on the Indy car circuit. (That doesn't change the fact that she's second-best of just three and the the third doesn't race often.)

Matt didn't mention here that in my email, I speculated the Times writer was just regurgitating something put out by the Clinton campaign.

<![CDATA[Hyman Decent commented on Proposed Gas Tax Holiday Panned As Gimmick; Also, Water Is Wet]]> I would like Clinton (why are prominent women often referred to by their first name, unlike men?) to catch up to, but not surpass, Obama. Then, with a deadlock at the convention, I'd like the party leaders to draft another Democrat for the nomination. Maybe Al Gore. (There, I said it.) A voter can dream, can't he?

As for fuel, how about rationing it? It was done during WWII.

@DannyBN: Margaret Thatcher didn't have to attempt "to force millions of families into bankruptcy by forcing them to buy health insurance they don't want or can't afford" because the UK has socialized medicine.

<![CDATA[Hyman Decent commented on Something To Th!nk About Regarding The Coming (Hopefully) Green Vehicle Revolution]]> @Sanfam: I found a press release (dated August 28, 2002) that says Ford, the NY Power Authority and the MTA, as well as LIPA, were involved. It mentions that commuters outside of Nassau and Suffolk got some, too, though I'm sure LIPA had nothing to do with those.

@sp00nix ["Why does grandma have 22"s and thoes fake Buick style accents on the fenders?"]: Maybe she bought the SUV used and it already had those.

]]>
<![CDATA[Hyman Decent commented on 7-Year-Old Steals Grandma's SUV For Joyride]]> @SVreader ["...I feel bad for the people whose property was destroyed/damaged. I wonder if the grandmother will actually have to pay for it or if the owners will just be left with the bill?"]: IANAL, but I do believe the grandmother, as either the owner of the vehicle or the legal guardian of this little dipshit, or both, is on the hook for the damage. But if she doesn't have much in the way of assets, suing her (should she not pay voluntarily) would be futile.

@kimsama ["The cops in the clip told the little boy that the grandmother would have to pay for it."]: Although I believe they are in this case, cops are not always right when they tell you what the law says. Sometimes they err and other times they lie.

@JustZoot ["I'm pretty sure grandma is letting him be charged with grand theft auto so her car insurance will pay for the damages..."]: Again, IANAL, but it could go the other way; when reporting your car stolen, perhaps you get off the hook for any damages that occur after it was taken. Anyway, if I'm not mistaken, Florida doesn't require auto insurance.

<![CDATA[Hyman Decent commented on Something To Th!nk About Regarding The Coming (Hopefully) Green Vehicle Revolution]]> IIRC, here in New York State, a handful of first-gen TH!NKs were leased to drivers through a state energy agency or government-chartered corporation. <![CDATA[Hyman Decent commented on Suzuki SX4 First American Car Under $16K With Standard Nav, Take That SYNC]]> Hey, Jalopnik, put up a post about the seven-year-old dipshit in south Florida who stole his grandma's Durango. He managed to break off its right front wheel! (Maybe that's not saying much, since it's a Chrysler product.)

Can anyone tell me how wealthy a neighborhood Palm Beach Gardens is? I'm wondering how likely the kid's family has enough insurance and money to compensate all the people whose property he damaged.

]]>
<![CDATA[Hyman Decent commented on Suzuki SX4 First American Car Under $16K With Standard Nav, Take That SYNC]]> Suzuki T.R.I.P. (Travel, Real-time traffic, Information and Play)

That acronym is so tortured, it must've been coined by a member of China's Communist Party.

@Starlton Heston: Correct me if I'm wrong, but this doesn't do anything that SYNC does, and vice versa. Also, I believe the SYNC trademark belongs to Microsoft, not Ford, so once the exclusivity clause of Ford's deal with Microsoft ends, other auto manufacturers will be able to offer SYNC and call it SYNC.

<![CDATA[Hyman Decent commented on Scammers Using Toyota's Name To Rip Off Consumers]]> @UDMan: I don't know which NYC cars you refer to as gypsy cabs, but there are livery cars (almost always a Town Car, and usually black) much like the mini-cabs rognbrow describes. The cars themselves are regulated by the City's T&LC (I don't know about the drivers). They're not supposed to pick up passengers that hail them on the street, but since yellow cabs are a very rare sight outside of Manhattan below 125th Street or so, they actually fill a need when they do.

<![CDATA[Hyman Decent commented on Would You Drive A Chinese Car?]]> Some have mentioned that some automotive components used by domestic auto manufaturers are made in China. Isn't the engine of the Chevy Equinox made in China? That's enough to keep me from buying one.

@abgwin, hanakimi: The EU and Turkey currently have what is called a customs union.

Some people take issue with the continuing, vehement refusal of Turks (government and populace alike) to acknowledge the massacre of Armenians around the time of WWI. True, some Japanese are the same way regarding their military's atrocities in China during WWII, but it seems to me that the intransigence in Japan is comparatively much less prevalent.

<![CDATA[Hyman Decent commented on Danica Patrick First Woman To Win IndyCar Race, Proves She's Not Just A Piece Of Meat]]> @Novaload: Unfortunately, because there's a double standard, your comparison is one of apples and oranges. When a male athlete shows off his body (I wouldn't put Namath's pantyhose commercial in this category, by the way), it reinforces the image of his athletic prowess. When a female athlete does it, it detracts from the image of her athletic prowess, even if she competes only against other women.

It's a matter of perception and perhaps the only way for this perception to get changed is for the public to see female athletes who pose succeed in their sports.
