<![CDATA[Comments from HUMONGUS]]> <![CDATA[Comments from HUMONGUS]]> <![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on PCH, Turbo Offenhauser Euro Sedan Edition: Peugeot 404 or Rover 2000?]]> Voted for the Pug because you must take into consideration the inroads you will have to make into the firewall to mount the Offy correctly. It would fit much better in the Rover, but in reality you could buy both cars and two SBC engines/trannys to stick in these vehicles for half the price of the Offenhauser engine.

<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on Trailer Park Special R/C Buick Finds A Way To Leave Puddle Of Electrons]]> I can almost hear the rarely-tuned 425 cubic inch big-block struggling to pull the Wildcat up the boulevard, barely firing on six of it's eight cylinders.

<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on Jettachero, Hellfire and Brimstone Await Thine Creator]]> It reminds me of the Edgar Allen Poe short "The Cask of Amontillado." The creator of this car should be lured to a remote castle in the European highlands on the premise of "rewarding" him for his creation. As he is plied with wine the vehicle should be driven to the catacombs and bricked inside a false wall. The final sounds we will hear would be the alarm system frantically repeating "Vorsprung durch Technik!!" as the last brick is sealed in place, the misshapen creature locked away for all time. "IN PACE REQUIESCAT!!"

<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on PCH, Fear And Loathing On The Campaign Trail '72 Edition: Mercury Cougar Or Volvo 1800ES?]]> That Cougar reminds me of the beginning of automobile garishness--the 70's. Emission controls, catalytic converters, smog pumps, and more vacuum lines than a neoprene nightmare combined with the sheer aerodynamic ugliness of a heavy Ford/Lincoln-Mercury product scratches the Cougar off my list. Gotta go with the Volvo, I would look forward to swapping the 351 from the Cougar into the Swedish car (sans emissions gear) just before running the Cougar through the shredder and putting it out of my misery.

<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on Aussie Motorist Hits Koala, Koala Survives Only To Find Out It Has The Clap]]> @Gearhead_42: Yeah, talk about a tough day!! His girlfriend probably told him he should go to the clinic and get tested because her "other boyfriend" had given her "something", and in a stupor he wandered into traffic--only to wind up inches away from a boiling hot radiator. Poor guy!!

<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on Project Car Hell, 1961 Edition: Simca Aronde Or Pair-O-Lincolns?]]> But isn't the engine supposed to be good in the Simca? Is the pope Jewish? At least the Lincolns are American and parts can be found with enough visits to salvage yards across the country. Simca to cross the river Styx.

<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on Jerk Pees On Ferrari, The Internet Erupts]]> The Ferrari owner should be arrested for general stupidity--if you can afford a Ferrari, you can afford to have a locksmith come out and cut a new set of keys. Any smart luxury car owner knows that you don't leave your ride unattended for any length of time, and overnight you may as well drive it to the chop-shop yourself.

<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on Project Car Hell: Goggomobil Or Grand Nationalmino?]]> WTF is a Goggomobile? Anything that sounds like "go-go in vain, go-go insane, trying to find parts for me!" has to be completely hellish--gets my vote.

<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on What Should The National Speed Limit Be?]]> I tried to get a rental Nissan Maxima to do 160 once, but it was governed at a buck-thirty. I agree with what others have said and call this a monumental, steaming pile of B.S.

]]>
<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on PCH, Red, White, And Blue Flames Edition: Austin America Or Rambler American?]]> Both vehicles are hellish in their own right, but had to go with the Austin America. At least with the Rambler you can repower it with any American V-8 if the mood strikes you and besides, it only has 73,000 original miles...unless the odometer has rolled over once.

<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on NHRA Shortens Track After Fatal Crash, No Longer 1/4-Mile]]> Not a race fan, but seems as if they removed the concrete wall (read instantly fatal at impact speeds over 100 MPH) and made the sand trap longer as one poster suggested, that would cut the risk considerably. And I'm still having trouble with the math--cutting 300 or so feet off the length of the track INCREASES reaction time?!?

<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on Car Industry Carnage: US Auto Sales Down 18.8% For June]]> @GasGuzzler: You said:

"Gas is $4/gallon. So what? What are you doing about it? Blogging on a website about how you think anybody in this country predicted it even 5 years ago is a crock and you know it."

Actually, a preview was given back in 1973 but the sheeple went back to sleep. The so-called "Energy Crisis" should have been a wake up call to the Big 3 automakers and Americans in general but it went ignored--much like the idiot light on the dashboard telling you it's too late to "Check Oil."

<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on PCH, 3-Way Superpower Showdown: Renault R17 Gordini, Alfa Romeo Giulia, or Bond Equipe?]]> Had to go with the Alfa, but that Renault 17 brings back memories of the one I owned in the U.K.--which was thrashed when I bought it. Lasted a few thousand miles before the motor grenaded and I wrestled with myself on whether to put in a new motor, but paid a guy at a salvage yard to do the swap for me. A month later, snapped a drive axle and sold it to some guy who really liked (dare I say obsessed?) over Renaults.

<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on PCH, Engines Not Found In Nature Edition: LS1 BMW or 1JZGTE Volvo?]]> @dusanmal: Got anymore pics, I'm thinking of investing in my own PCH--a 78' Triumph Spitfire 1500.

]]>
<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on PCH, Engines Not Found In Nature Edition: LS1 BMW or 1JZGTE Volvo?]]> @DrJeffie: Exactly. You could buy them both to pull the LS1 from the Bimmer and part it out (i.e. mercy killing from the butchery that was done by the previous owner), pull the Toyota motor from the Volvo and resell it, buy a Chevy engine swap kit from Jaguars That Run and install the LS1 into the Volvo. At least you would have a driveable sleeper with an install that looked almost factory.

<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on Muscle Car Wars Of 1978: Hood Decals Strike Back]]> Everybody loves "Smokey and the Bandit." Everybody loves the T/A. Everybody is in thrall to the Pontiac...how ordinary. The T/A is nice, but the AMX at least was something different. And let's not even mention the sheer ugliness factor of the Mustang II, which was just a glorified Pinto with a V8.

]]>
<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on Project Car Hell, God Save The Queen Edition: Jensen GT or Lotus Elan?]]> Why is there even a discussion on this? Gotta go with the Lotus. Car does have some appeal but the availability of parts is the killer, at least the Jensen is driveable.

<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on PCH, Dante Alighieri Thinks You Deserve It Edition: Lamborghini Jarama Or Maserati Quattroporte?]]> The Maserati, for looking like a glorified General Motors "generic" car from the 80's (Buick/Olds/Pontiac). The Lamborghini looks like a Toyota Supra and on closer inspection like a two-door British Rover automobile. Get the guy to come down at least 6 grand on the price of the Lambo, swap in a 572 Chevy crate motor and you've got the ideal sleeper. The Maserati on the other hand may be a complete car, but will not generate near the conversation as a big-block Lambo.

]]>
<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on 1964 Dodge Dart Wagon]]> @slantsick: My uncle had a Valiant I sorta liked with a 170 CID, never understood why he never did an engine swap since his brothers (including my dad) drove Chevys and Fords with big-block engines. Would have liked to seen him get a salvage "K" member from a V8 Duster or Dart and drop in a 383.

]]>
<![CDATA[HUMONGUS commented on Project Car Hell, 60s Police Car Edition: Ford or Dodge?]]> You could repower the Ford with an engine swap from a Crown Vic police cruiser and have it going again relatively cost effectively, but the Mopars are an entrance ramp to the Highway of PCH/Financial Hell.
