<![CDATA[F_munk commented on 2008 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V, Part Two]]> Still, you've managed to make a "ugly car" look good in your photography. Great composition, but watch the lens shake... which is very noticeable at larger image size.

With regards to the car's appearance, I didn't care much for it at first but as I spent more time looking at it, it does look decent from some angles. I think that's true of the current crop of cars with their sculpted and chiseled avant-garde styling; BMW, Toyota, Acura, Cadillac, etc. Gone are the cars with smooth and flowing organic lines... cars that looked right from every angle. Hopefully, the trend will change once again. I'm tired of cars that look good only from certain vantage points and awfully awkward from the rest.

<![CDATA[F_munk commented on Would You Trade Performance For Fuel Economy?]]> Hypothetically, I wouldn't trade performance for fuel economy because I know it is possible to have both. The automakers are just too reluctant to put their resources towards bringing the technology to the masses. Audi and a few others have been tinkering with high performance diesel powerplants and we have yet to see one for released mass consumption. BMW has been working on their hydrogen system since the late 80s. Toyota and Honda have shown supercar concepts that incorporates both gas and electric power. None of these are in dealer showrooms.

Realistically, in order to nudge them towards products that have both performance and economy, we'd all have to trade performance for economy for now to create demand/incentive towards efficient vehicles in their entire product lines. Only then will we begin to see offerings that has power and efficiency.

The team does bear some responsibility, but ultimately it's the job of the guy behind the wheel to pay attention to that light at pit exit. It's there for a reason. A simple case of not paying attention. IIRC, Sutil made the same mistake recently during practice.

<![CDATA[F_munk commented on Pit Row Crash Knocks Raikkonen, Hamilton Out Of Canadian Grand Prix]]> @rlj676:

Didn't seem bad? Are you kidding me? Even though the commentators were the same as Speed's coverage, there was no pre-race show, post-race coverage was cut short (with commentators talking over each other) to make time for useless infomercials and the coverage itself was interrupted by 3 times as many commercial breaks. I would gladly give up HD for better content.

In comparason to Speed's usual coverage, it was crap. And Speed's isn't that great to begin with.

Please allow me to explain advertising.

In a corporate conference room...

Ice Cream Exec: We've got this new product, Bahli Bahli, we need to sell to young boys.

Ad Agency: Yes, sir! We'll take an existing ad, name it with some fancy advertising words so you'll think it's new and innovative... and you'll love it!

Ice Cream Exec: Don't disappoint me. This is very important.

Back at the agency:

Creative Director: you guys, we (meaning you) need to hit this one out the park, so that I can justify my overly high salary.

Creative team: Got it! What do boys like? Drifting! We'll drift the ice cream bar on a race track. It'll be totally awesome.

Creative Director: Brilliant! (with a hand gesture).

Back at the corporate conference room...

Creative Director: It wasn't easy, but I cam up with this... (plays tape)

Ice Cream Exec: Brilliant (with a different hand gesture), but make the logo bigger!

<![CDATA[F_munk commented on Oregon Cop Slapped With Illegal Parking Complaint]]> Mr. Bryant does seem to have a little too much free time. On the other hand, I think most of you are missing the point: no one is above the law, not even those who serve it. How many times have you had a cop say to you "the law is the law"? Officers of the law, in addition to their normal duties, must also set an example. If they themselves to do not abide by the law they serve, why should the rest of us? If I were the judge in thise case, I'd knock the cop back to the academy for a year to remind him what being a cop is about.

<![CDATA[F_munk commented on 2009 Corvette ZR1 Sets Nürburgring On Fire]]> Autoblog reported unofficial time of 7:25 for the GT-R V spec currently under testing at the ring.

I'm not Corvette bashing here. The domestic automakers need to not take the lazy engineer's brute force approach to make halo cars. It should exemplify the very best thinking they have and take no short-cuts.

In the end they will end up with a truly impressive product that will improve their brands, and the consumers get better products.

Would you say no to a ZR-1 that is better than what it is now in every way?
