@sander_dutch: If you're thinking the jag is eligible for the History Racing Car Cup in the Expert Series, it doesn't.

It's a "recreation" and doesn't register as a 1966 car.
@Elratauru: No, that'd be extremely lame.
Heroes.

The thinking that sex is somehow "disgusting" is old and stupid religious crap. Sex is a natural function of (almost) all living beings. [news.nationalgeographic.com]

Honestly, there should be no reason to hide it from anybody, anywhere. And yes, that includes children whose first experiences with it can range from being awkward through to life threatening. The sooner we get rid of these stupid taboos, the sooner we can teach kids the stuff they need to know.
@pi_good08: Because nobody anticipates that it will actually be released next year.
@Papier-pele: Tricky is one of my favorite games of all time.

SSX is also still one of my favorite series. I was dissapointed that it didn't get the HD console treatment.
Race car, it'd be an aquantances Radical Clubsport I drove around Winton many years ago.

Road car, it'd be a toss up between my current car (Evo IX) and a friends S4S Esprit Turbo. But the Radical was faster than both of those in every way.
This is a massive lost opportunity for Shreve.

It's an unfortunate truth that when customers get good service they tell a few close friends. When they get really bad service they post it on the internet.

Rather than bitching about people bitching about him, he should have apologised and invested $1000 in over compensating for his fuck up. With posts being on forums all over the internet, he had (possibly still has) the opportunity to create more positive advertising than any he could have paid for and more good will than providing a consistently awesome service for 10+ years.
I get where you're coming from, but I don't 100% agree.

Some cars are a artful like some computer programs are. Some are totally utilitiarian.

But you're right in that each one has a "flavour". I've owned two sports cars in my life. A Lotus Excel S.E. (a 1980s model Senna tested and called "the best handling road car I have ever driven") and a Mitsubishi Evolution IX.

The Evo has 100BHP more, is faster off the line, faster in the corners, has a higher top speed, has more direct steering, is a lot more comfortable, more practical, infinitely more reliable and also cost me 3x as much to buy (but I did buy it new). But it doesn't have the same "flavour" the Lotus did, and never will. Driving it doesn't feel as involved and it doesn't feel as "special".

The Evo is an engineering marvel, the Lotus was a piece of automotive art. But both are fun to drive.

Meanwhile, a Camry will always be as utilitarian and dispassionate as a toaster. Same way as using Excel will never be fun.
"So why does everything look so bright and cheery?"

Because every asshole under the sun complained about Resistance 1 being too brown.
@Giggers: He may be a total asshole. And the people who leaked this stuff are the real heroes, who may end up being the ones hung and/or shot for it.

But regardless of how much of an asshole he is, he's still had the courage to do something western press hasn't had the balls to do since Vietnam.
Already spent more time playing GT5 than any other console (or PC) game released this generation (including CoD, Oblivion, Civ V and a bunch of other great games). But I play it to race, not to crash. Same as I bought my last two sports cars to race, and not to crash.

But I've seen other idiots write off $350k Porsches through a split second of stupidity. Each to their own.
The handling and track and vehicle dynamics are the things they got right in GT5. The rest of the game is a mixed bag with some bits seeming unfinished and others behind the times. But the bits that really matter are still awesome, and I've spent LOTS of hours playing it (nearly level 24 now).

I suspect Sony pushed Yamauchi to release it asap to quell the masses crying for it to be released. He finished the core game dynamics to his standards, but only got most of the cars and tracks to a "releasable" state and copy-n-pasted the core UI dynamics from GT4. Even Prologue was a little ahead of GT5 in some ways (eg. cash for online races and constructor races), and some of the promised things (like importing Prologue cars) weren't implemented at all.

I'm sure he'll continue to polish the rest of the cars and tracks while adding more of both along with more events. As Kotaku said before, it's more like a MMO than a racing game. I'll be playing it until GT6 is released, as I was still playing GT4 less than a month before GT5 came out.
I was surprised that credits weren't earned from online. It was one of the best ways to earn credits in prologue.

Still having a lot of fun with the game (about to fire it up now). Level 23 and counting...

Btw, anybody know how to unlock one of the historic racers? Started working on getting gold in all the licenses. Not sure which will be quicker, all gold licenses or earning 20M credits.
@tramplerofarmies: I think the word you're looking for is moot.

But I live in the nanny state of Australia, so I totally know where you're coming from.
@D0rk: I won most of the beginner and amateur races without tuning at all. I did an engine rebuild on some cars and oil changes on others. I think I may have even purchased tyres on one car. But that's all I had to do to get gold on all the beginner and amateur races.

The profesional series is a little harder. I think I've upgraded tyres for all the races. But even the Lupo cup was an easy win using a standard Lupo against Lupo Cup cars. All I did was an engine rebuild and upgraded to sports soft tyres.

I am using a G25 though. Maybe that makes a difference?
Over 30% completed so far and loving it. Took 3 days leave (no such thing as thanks giving in Australia) and have been playing it almost every waking hour.

Ray, do you know what the go is with the head tracking? I have a PSEye and it works in Arcade, but not in GT mode. I'm level 18 atm and wondering if that's also something that's "unlocked" for GT mode at higher levels.
Dreamwhat?

All of my close friends had Playstation and Playstation 2. Some even had Nintendos. But I don't know a single person who owned a Dreamcast. Not friends, not friends of friends.
Totally loving the game so far. Picked it up at a midnight launch and was playing it until sleep overcame me around about 6am. Already completed all the beginner stuff, most of the challenges, but haven't even looked at a license test yet.

While I love the game, there are some elements I would have loved to have seen done better.

eg.

* Updated track textures for all tracks
* Higher detail in the non-premium cars (even if only from the outside)
* Some sort of career mode

I actually like the way the 2nd hand cars are handed out (no pun intended). It makes you think harder about what vehicle you're going to buy to win a particular race.

I also like the levelling / unlocking system.

Both of the above make the game flow a bit better than earlier GTs. They were too easy IMO. You could just grind credits and buy / upgrade the most outrageous vehicle and trounce everyone on the track.
The GTO was NOT Aussie styling.

Not sure why, but you guys ruined its styling.
