Standard land vehicles have a tendency to break down after how many decades of existence? Granted they're generally reliable, but it only takes one breakdown when you're hundreds if not thousands of feet above the ground to ruin your day. At least with ground vehicles, the engine can fail, but you can still drive yourself to safety.
