I've been following this all morning too - Former Hurricane Joe Vasicek (who we drafted) is no longer with us - he was a much loved player here in NC and I hope the team does something to remember him when the season gets going... #oppositelock
Does anybody have any reports on gas mileage in an E30? I've been thinking of getting one as a new beater once my Saturn dies, but want to maintain a reasonable level of fuel efficiency. Speed is not the key here, if they came with smaller motors I'm okay with that too - I love driving slow cars fast! #oppositelock
You can also pick up "The Slammer" from the gas stations around here, with all the new arrest photos in it, every week! Our Techs love that thing. #oppositelock
Don't remember exactly who or where it was, but in the late '80s early '90s somebody went over the outside fence and down the hill behind the banking somewhere with out grandstands all the way around. The car was basically just a roll cage as the sheet metal peeled off in the flip on the way over. #oppositelock
I currently work for an Automatic Transmission Manufacturer and both my vehicles are manuals, and neither is from a brand we supply either. #oppositelock
Re: Gymkhana 4 - I've always wanted to take one of those back-lot tours in something faster than a damn tram car. I'm someone who is always looking for fun racing lines on every road I end up on... Don't care if anybody else thinks the video is lame, I'd love to do that myself but I can't, and therefore it's awesome. #oppositelock
This - You know you've always wanted to rally car through one of those crazy studio backlots, sure looks like fun to me, know matter what you think of Ken
Using the link they provided with the Android browser I had to back out to just muk.jalopnik.com in order to log in. The Log In button on the Oppo page wouldnt work. Needless to say this new format and mobile format doesnt really work very well at all. #oppositelock
Does anyone have some advice on how to get to oppositelock on my mobile device? The mobile Jalopnik page really doesnt work all that well and doesn't redirect correctly if I click on Opposite Lock from the Morning Shift article... #oppositelock
Yeah, both of my personal vehicles are manuals (a WRX and a SL2). I really don't mind the newest ATs though, my Fiance's Mazda3 has a great auto that I've never really found fault with. The newer Tundras (09+) have been much better and aren't so bad either. Its just that an auto can never handle all the strange situations you'll end up in w/ regards to shifting, so its basically always going to do something weird then. #oppositelock
As an engineer at a Transmission plant that supplies to the Tundra/Tacoma, I concur with your opinions on shift feel and how its related to fuel economy. We don't do the shift schedules, just make the hardware here, but I cant stand how many of the shifts are smoothed out both to convince normal people they're in a light car and to be able to keep the lock-up clutch engaged as much as possible. Striking the balance of not having looooooong shifts and not having harsh shifts is a pain in the ass and people still complain about it... #oppositelock
I think its great - simple and functional just like cars used to be. The current Camry interior is crap, with a crazy plastic radio screen that is a Black LCD on a tan background - it looks waaaay cheaper than this.
My 97 SL2 (with a 5spd) is VERY fun to drive fast. It only has AC and the Spoiler for options, so it weighs like 2k lbs (No power anything). I've autocrossed it successfully before I got my sports cars and now its just the snow-drifting go everywhere beater car.
(picture for reference, my SL2 hasn't been washed in probably 2 years...)
