Armand, Star-Spangled Pedant commented on Woman Shifting Gears In Fiat 500 Oddly Entrancing, at 1:16 PM on May 16
Of the clutch-using women I've ridden in cars with over the years, I think the most talented is probably my mother.

@Armand, Star-Spangled Pedant: I feel like I should apologize to the other Steinbeck fans out there.

Armand, Star-Spangled Pedant commented on Pimps, Pirates, and PMS: The Art Cars Of The 24 Hours of LeMons, at 7:54 PM on May 15
@Jonny Lieberman: Wow, two comments in one thread and I'm already thinking of booking a flight to South Carolina for LeMons South.

Armand, Star-Spangled Pedant commented on Pimps, Pirates, and PMS: The Art Cars Of The 24 Hours of LeMons, at 7:52 PM on May 15
@Jonny Lieberman: I was never able to figure out whether the pirate was somehow hooked up to the steering linkage or was just swaying with the breeze.

Armand, Star-Spangled Pedant commented on Full Details On Ford Australia's Multi-Flavored FPV Falcon Lineup, at 5:34 PM on May 14
@rlj676: I'm with you on the position that Ford's (and GM's and Chrysler's) biggest obstacle in the sales race is the public's perception that American cars are poorly designed and indifferently assembled-- in short, that they're low-quality.

Armand, Star-Spangled Pedant commented on The Top 50 Lemons Of The 24 Hours Of LeMons, at 5:19 PM on May 14
@Novaload: The field find Benz 190 was indeed there, but it had to drop out fairly early in the first day when it blew its head gasket.

I'm proud to have been a hanger-on with the third place team, and it was my privilege to hold the funnel as the real crew members poured fuel into the Motoring J Style MR2.

Armand, Star-Spangled Pedant commented on When You Go From 44th To 15th Place In Six Hours, You Get A Few Dings, at 9:42 PM on May 13
@LandofMinos: That's a reference to the movie "Fast Times at Ridgemont High." It's said by Sean Penn (before he won an Oscar for best actor) after he messes up a car belonging to Forest Whittaker (before he won an Oscar for best actor.) See it.
Also, anyone within a 1000 mile radius of a LeMons race should DEFINITELY GO.

@JoeWoodsprite: I remember that too....
Actually, I saw this car in the Altamont parking lot, and I was impressed.

Armand, Star-Spangled Pedant commented on Commenter Of The Day: The Lies We Want To Hear Edition, at 9:11 PM on May 13
@Number_Six: And it gets even weirder when you remember that Max's parents were prominent British Nazis who got married at the home of their good buddy Joseph Goebbels.

Armand, Star-Spangled Pedant commented on Yes, Those Were Vacuum-Operated Skulls On The Black Metal V8olvo's Roof, at 5:59 PM on May 12
Having seen the V8olvo in action and up close, and having met some of the people behind it, I can say with absolute certainty that "Evil Genius Racing" was the right name for this team.
@Murilee Martin: The Nixon stuff reminds me-- someone needs to turn a K-car limo (like the one Tricky Dick rode around in during the Reagan years) into a LeMon.

Armand, Star-Spangled Pedant commented on Here's Why Yesterday's Fatal LeMons Crash Is So Hard To Believe, at 10:06 AM on May 11
@rudolphdude: David Freiburger was there with Carjunkietv.com, and it seems that quite a few teams have blogs or websites.
I'm not going to be able to make it to the second day of the race-- mothers can be so unreasonable about Mother's Day-- but I wish everybody the best.
