OK, that has the latest-model hood & grille, which were way ugly, and they've poked around with the rear lamps... it's a sin, is what it is... my '96 GTV (non-convertible Spider) was better looking (although slower) and yes, front-drive, but still used to turn heads... the only vague competition was a Mitsu FTO ffs... so no competition at all really!

I have to say my overall favourite is the Pontiac Chieftain... I'd have trouble walking past this on the street even if it was my own... I think it's the same size as the town I came from - and where else can you see a giant glowing Indian head? (Ok, maybe at the Tulalip Country Club, Hotel & Casino. It's the number one place for fun, y'know.)

Frame, engine, running gear, bumpers, headlights from the S-15, some very iffy-looking rear arch flares... I think it would be kinder to take the Playboy out behind the barn, douse it in kerosene and put it out of its misery.

Quite apart from the (comedy) UK-US exchange rate at the moment, the UK government also reams the UK motorist on the purchase price of a car, (also on petrol, which is now the equivalent of about $7.60 per US gallon...) so UK-US price comparisons are somewhat skewed - thousands of quids can be saved by buying a UK-spec car (RHD and everything) in Europe, say Belgium or Holland, shipping it back to the UK and paying the resulting import duty... BTW, what the CLART have Ford done to the exterior design of that Focus abomination???

I had me a 1999 e46 316 manual (cloth seats, alloys, sorry(!)) in the UK - the 1.9L I4 was plenty good enough to cruise at 85-90 all day, GREAT motorway (highway) mileage, comfy as all hell and 728,000% better than the POS 2000 Golf V5 I traded in for it... that 3 was perhaps not the sexiest car I've ever owned, but by god it was the best one! (And yes, I used to occasionally get mighty annoyed at mere mortals using the BMW lane on the motorways...(jest!))

I too was tempted with the 912/Ferrari choice, but look what happened last time they hooked up - the engine started going backwards and then changed sides! That's why I voted 912/BMW... keeps it totally Teutonic, ja? Also, as this is hell, I'd stuff the V12 in the FRONT of the Porsche, mounted n/s and build a huge firewall/transmission tunnel... then I'd leave the hood off & paint the engine fire-truck red. Alles gut!

But in true chicken/egg stylee, what came first, the Pontiac GTO or the Holden Monaro? Is the Pontiac the badge-engineered illegitimate baby of the Monaro ir is it vicky-vercka? Should the parent be the one to die or the offspring?? Choose wisely, Solomon. (Kinda)
