Pretty shrewd of Texas. Look at the UK where 'cherished numbers' are regularly sold for thousands of dollars.. and they don't even allow vanity plates, those are just natural combinations that are cool and valuable.

@owen-magnetic: Actually that was his wife's car in the movie- he has a 68(?) Ford Galaxie convertible that gets stolen with his book in it... there's a continuity gaffe with the DS, a later shot shows a different car with turning headlights
