That being said, depending on the actual layout, and i do see a large difference in this in particular between Toyotas and Hondas, FWD typically has fairly minimal drivetrain loss.

Unless it's a Honda, then it's just annoying. "My B16 makes 170hp!!!"

Right... which somehow translates to 125-130whp.

]]>
<![CDATA[93celicaGT2 commented on Ever Wonder What Your Car's Emblem Means?]]> @A strolling player: See... and this is where Toyota starts to confuse me...

Toyota: Abundance of Rice
Celica: Celestial, or "From the Heavens"

Ok... i can roll with that so far.

The intial emblem for the Celica, was a Dragon. Was on the first and second generations, then dissapeared until it resurfaced with the 6th generation "Special Edition" cars.

So... my first gen Celica:

"An abundance of rice bestowed upon me from the heavens, in such a fetching manner as to be raped by dragons?"

<![CDATA[93celicaGT2 commented on What Car Have You Loved The Most?]]> @A strolling player: Top out would have depending on the tranny... I don't know what the auto's gearing is like... BUT, if you had the 5-speed, and disabled the governer.... how does 150+ sound to you? My celica had a V6 Camry transmission in it when i first did the swap, and the gearing flat out ridiculous when paired with a bolt on 3sgte. Now, i have a Solara V6 tranny which has i believe the same ratios, and i shift INTO 5th gear at about 140-145 if i'm really in it.

I actually have a 1mzfe at home sitting in my garage, out of a later model Avalon, with VVT-i, and i think i'm going to put it in my black Celica, should be enough for some pep, especially when paired with the shorter geared Celica tranny.

]]>
<![CDATA[93celicaGT2 commented on What Car Have You Loved The Most?]]> @A strolling player:

Those camry V6s are no joke. That engine won all kinds of awards, from the VZ-series to the MZ series. Quad cam FTW!

<![CDATA[93celicaGT2 commented on What Car Have You Loved The Most?]]> I have a bit of a quandary here... i have loved so many cars for different reasons.

The one that i flat out loved that was not a huge pile, would have been my Audi 90S Quattro 20v. Beautiful glossy black, 17" BBS rims, tint, lowered, custom exhaust, perfect interior, bought it with 43k miles on it. I got stopped constantly with that thing. "Is that a new car?!?!?!" "Did you import it? I've never seen one."

It wasn't outrageously fast, i just had relatively basic upgrades on it, but man, it sounded beautiful (kindof like a hoover on steroids with it's curious 5-cylinder warble.) It was just a perfectly balanced car, and to this day, i still lust after another one. I've had/have much faster cars, could arguably look better, but nothing tugs at my heart when i see these things now and again driving down the road while i'm in my clapped out hoontastic Celica.

I will own another one, i will make it look exactly the same, and commence with an RS2 transplant with the purpose of dispatching any domestic/ricer that dares cross my path.

In terms of car that brought the most giggles or adrenaline? My 1987 CRX Si. Nothing makes you scream "OH SHIT!!!" and laugh hysterically at the same time as a 1700lb car (with driver) running rabid on a D16Y8 SOHC Vtec full bolt ons, tune, and a 125 shot of nitrous on a stock suspension and some skinny ass tires. RIP (dead due to torque steer into a telephone pole.)

<![CDATA[93celicaGT2 commented on Project Car Hell, Dial 911 For Hell Edition: '71 or '76?]]> I'm going to go with the 76, if my computer loved me enough to vote.

Simply because it sounds a lot like my projects start...

"I have this smashed V6 camry lying here... OH!!! A Paseo shell with a blown engine for cheap!! I'm sure it'll all fit together with no problems..."

Plus, it'll be great fun explaining to your buddies while you're working on it, as to why pulling a Porsche into the grass magically makes it catch fire.

<![CDATA[93celicaGT2 commented on Project Car Hell: Mustang or Camaro?]]> I'd say the Mustang is much more hellish. Imagine the delight you'll find when you try to search junkyads for hinges and bolts that you need.

Or just pay out the ass for them at all those NOS places.

The Camaro, for me, at least, i'd be too tempted just to chuck a 383, 3.73 rear gear, posi, and a 200shot, and not touch the rust. Call it a day until it falls apart.

The Mustang, i would actually care enough to be dumb enough to try to make it at least look nice. Although just to piss all the purists off, i'd probably put an import motor in it. (Turbo Tundra motor, anyone?)

]]>
<![CDATA[93celicaGT2 commented on Subaru To Build Next Toyota Celica?]]> @biminitwst: Oh, it's intentional. I was lucky enough to get a Corolla XRS as a loaner for a week when i was dumb enough to send my old AllTrac in to the dealer for a clutch replacement.

There are about 2 ricers to every minivan in Indianapolis, and they think they're cool to rev their stock Hondas that they've "tuned" with Crome by putting nothing but two-step on.

To me... anyone who two-steps on me at a stop light becomes instant prey for a light corolla with the heart of a Celica GT-S/Elise. A stock corolla.

It was a very fun little car. And now, with the aftermarket that is finally surfacing for the 2zzge, i really wouldn't mind having one. All the zing and potential of a Celica GT-S, with none of the "Arrest Me Factor."
