The Super Bowl ad for the Maserati Ghibli blew the doors off of everybody, mostly because car nuts weren't expecting it and most Americans hadn't heard of it. But after that one ad, everybody's now looking up Maserati's entry offering. And as the Maserati site is currently down, this is your Maserati Ghibli explainer.

Though the Ghibli is just the baby brother to the bigger Maserati Quattroporte, it's still got big shoes to fill, with plenty of history behind it.

The Maserati Ghibli is the entry-level Italian sedan. Of course, being an Italian sedan that makes the term "entry-level" only relative, as it starts at $65,600. It's powered by a choice of two turbocharged V6 engines, one of which is the company's first-ever diesel offering.

And because it's an Italian car, it sounds absolutely fantastic as well, with a raspy roar that will let everyone know you've arrived:

While you might not have seen many Ghiblis on the road just yet as it only recently went on sale, it's already making a big impact on Maserati's expectations. And that's not bad for a car that's expected to go toe-to-toe with the BMW 5-Series and the Jaguar XF.
