The Incredible Porsche 918 Spyder Is Even Faster Than Everyone ThoughtS

Porsche has finished the fine tuning of the 918 Spyder, and the resulting numbers have obliterated their original targets. 0-62 mph now comes in 2.6 seconds or 6.1 on electric power alone, and you get up to 94 mpg on the NEDC circle (78.4 US mpg) with the 'Weissach' package.

It's the fastest production car in the world around the Nürburgring at 6:57, a number McLaren hasn't done anything about so far. The combined peak power of 887 horsepower remains as before just like the 91 mpg (3.1 l/100 km, 75.87 US mpg) in standard form, but with the weight optimized Weissach package, Porsche claims 78.40 US mpg (3.1 l/100 km, 94 NEDC mpg) to be achievable, with a CO2 emission of just 70 g/km.

What's even better news is how they managed to improve the performance. The Weissach-equipped 918 Spyder goes does zero to 62 mph in 2.6 seconds (-0.2 seconds quicker than previously), zero to 124 mph in 7.2 seconds (-0.5 seconds) and passes the 186 mph (300 km/h) mark after 19.9 seconds (-2.1 seconds). Schnell indeed.

The full electric sprint to 62 takes 6.2 seconds, or 6.1 with the package, an improvement of 0.7 seconds. That's some zero emission speed right there. In Europe, the car get's an A+ efficiency classification, just like my fridge.

Can't wait to see Ferrari's and McLaren's answer. After all, they play a hybrid game too...
