You're standing on Col Saint-Roch in the night, in the middle of the Monte Carlo Rally. Watch the headlights, glowing brakes, and burning campfires and you'll get a sense of what makes this rally so special.
The Monte is a huge challenge to drivers, perhaps the most difficult rally of the year, because the weather is constantly changing and perfect tire choices are impossible. Just about every driver will experience the, uh, excitement, of racing on the snow on slick tarmac tires.
But the thrill for me is the closeness of the cars, the history, and the spectacular stages. This video gives a little sense of what it's like over there.
