2009 Nissan Cube Revealed

UPDATE: The 2009 Nissan Cube's price will start at $13,990 and we've even had a chance to test drive the Cube. Read our impression here. The Nissan Cube is hoping to capture the boxy chic market the Scion xB pioneered when it goes on sale in the US market next year. We think the Cube has a lot going for it. When it does arrive the funky little 2009 Nissan Cube will sport the same 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine found in the Nissan Versa, good for 122 HP and 127 lb-ft of torque. These will come mated to either Nissan's CVT transmission or a six-speed manual, for those who like to stand out in a crowd and row their own gears. Further differentiating the unique econobox from the rest of the market will be the "water drop" interior accents in the headliner and controls that give the appearance of rippling water. As with the Fit and Scion, the Cube will come loaded with features such as a sliding "sofa style" bench, remote keyless entry, an iPod-ready sound system and standard ABS. Buyers will also be treated to a host of other dealer-added accessories that could help propel the odd wagon into the hearts and homes of budget-conscious-yet-trendy buyers. 2010 Nissan Cube Unveiled Early

Tomorrow comes a day too soon in Japan as Nissan has already released a load of pictures of both the USDM and JDM Cube, which is to be "unveiled" tomorrow at the LA Auto Show. This eccentric little box is vying for the same niche as the polarizing Scion xB. Japanese Cubes are powered by a 107 Horsepower, 109 lb-feet Torque 1.5L fourbanger fitted to a CVT transmission. Drive setups include front and all-wheel drive. The configurations coming to the States currently remains unknown. 2010 Honda Insight Concept: Hybrid For The Masses

The new Honda Insight, just revealed moments ago, might not be as flashy some of the other concepts here at the 2008 Paris Auto Show, but it is arguably the most important one. The new Insight is a volley straight across the bow of the Toyota Prius, and with a rumored starting price of $18,500, it may be the critical hit which sinks their hybrid market dominating battleship. Thanks to that cheap entry point, it's hard to imagine this car as anything but a runaway success. Honda thinks so too, as the automaker will begin sales of the all-new Insight in Japan, Europe and North America in spring 2009, and projects annual global sales of 200,000 units. 2009 Audi S4 Sedan, Avant Revealed Ahead Of Paris

We've been showered with photos and details of the new Audi S4 Sedan and Audi S4 Avant ahead of the official Paris unveiling and the numbers do look good. Using supercharging and direct injection, the folks in Ingolstadt have managed to squeeze 333 HP out of the 3.0-liter V6, good for a 5.1 second 0-to-62 run while still returning an average of 24 MPG. S4 buyers will also get a seven-speed S-Tronic gearbox, Quattro all-wheel drive and the standard-issue array of electronic nannies keeping everything in line. 2009 Volkswagen Golf VI, Reviewed

While we’re were busy salivating over the 62 MPG VW Golf BlueMotion, our friends at Popular Mechanics were in Iceland putting the regular 2009 Volkswagen Golf VI through its paces. “We just improved the old car," VW’s board member for product development told them. And that’s exactly what PM found, reporting that it’s basically a Mark V with revised looks, a much better interior, new engines and better handling. Those engines are the most interesting thing. According to PM, the US market Golf VI (or the Rabbit, as it's called here) will definitely be getting the 2.0-liter TDI and maybe, just maybe, the 1.4-liter TSI turbocharged, supercharged gasoline engine that’s capable of both 0-60 in 8 seconds and returning 39.2 MPG. Speculation is something that's never in short supply in the automotive business, an observation that seems doubly true in the case of the next gen Toyota Supra. First, the Toyota FT-HS was totally going to be it. Then someone tried to convince everyone the FT-HS was the next generation Toyota Celica or AE86. Most recently, a Toyota exec hinted that the FT-HS could be a vision for the "Toyota Supra of the future." Yeah, sure. Volkswagen is the exclusive automotive sponsor of the upcoming smoggy games and New Beetles will be the official shuttle for all manner of Olympic official and Government overseer. What you have here are the winning submissions from Volkswagens Vmagination online Olympic art car design campaign, held in China. Adding these snazzy paint jobs to the long-in-the-tooth bug will make them a bit more visible to the spectators and cameras alike. AWESOME POWER! GTM's 40TR Roadster to Get Turbo, More Horsepower

GTM says feedback from the public has led it to turbocharge the Honda Civic Type-R powerplant in its GTM 40TR (track and race) roadster. Now, the Ariel Atom and KTM X-Bow challenger will reportedly do the zero-to-60 hop in 3.5 seconds, compared with the previous incarnation's under four seconds. That's been achieved, they say, by boosting the 2.0-liter powerplant to 300 hp. Prodrive's 2008 F1 Car to Roll Out at Year's End

It's no secret UK motorsports firm Prodrive will be throwing its rally-tested monkeywrench into the Formula One machine in 2008. Now, company boss Dave Richards says the company's F1 car will roll out in December 2007. Whether or not the car will be the basis for a Prodrive-supported B-team sponsored by McLaren — which has been reported widely since mid-2006 — remains to be seen. Richards is mum on that deal, though says the team's looking for a partner to supply an engine and chassis. Now, as Germany's Express newspaper reports, McLaren's Ron Dennis could use some of the cash raised from selling McLaren shares to purchase a stake in Prodrive. AutoExpress is adding its two quid to the Mini Clubman debate. AE pluralizes the coming model's half-sized rear door(s), which insiders have said will be in singular — that is, passenger side (US) only. (Of course, that could be a typo.) It's Magic: Elfin to Build MS8 Streamliner Roadster

Australia's Elfin created just short of a riot at the Melbourne auto show a couple of years ago, when the company unveiled its radical Clubman and Streamliner prototypes. Now, Elfin says it's making its MS8 Streamliner roadster available to 100 bushrangers (and the shelias who sweat them) who've got around $90,000 American burning holes in their knickers. Weighing a svelte 2,400 lbs, the droptop is built on a tubular space-frame chassis and powered by a Holden-sourced 5.7L V8 producing 325 hp (443 ft.-lbs of twist), linked to a six-speed manual and limited-slip diff. GM's Chairman of Vice (or something like that) Bob Lutz says the company's thinking of a number from one to a million. That number (ok, it's 100,000) will be the number of Camaros Chevrolet has to sell to make a production version of the company's new, high-profile concept viable. The new Camaro hasn't been approved yet, according to Lutz — who's fast becoming the king of expectations management — but considering Ford sold about 160,000 ~~models~~ Mustangs last year, we'd imagine it's an achievable goal.
