According to a report in Autocar, Mazda is planning to add a couple new models and expand the variants found in its existing lineup. The new products would include a new city car proportioned along the lines of the Mazda Kiyora Concept and a compact SUV.This push comes as Mazda CEO James Muir is looking for more depth out of his brand and perhaps more interesting, these products may be the first to actually bring the Nagare design language to production vehicles. We saw the first official press shots of the Mazda Kiyora earier this morning, but we dug the flowing Nagare design language so much we had to hunt it down on the show floor and check it out in the flesh. As you can tell from these live shots, it certainly didn't disappoint and Mazda seriously needs to figure out a way to bring these designs to production. We're not demanding anything ridiculous like a Furai (though we wouldn't mind it), but even an otherwise boring hatch like this Kiyora looks fantastic with the Nagare styling. Not content to debut just the freshly face-lifted 2009 Mazda MX-5 at the Paris Motor Show, Mazda will also be showing off it's latest iteration of the Nagare design language via the Mazda Kiyora Concept. The "urban compact concept car" features not just the swoopy design style, but also a four-cylinder direct-injection engine capable of stop-start operation and a new conceptual platform designed for optimized safety and driving dynamics. In addition to the MX-5 and the Kiyora, we'll get our first peek at the Euro-spec Mazda6 with a 2.2-liter turbodiesel, and the Mazda2 with a 1.6-liter turbodiesel, both of which we'll wantonly covet. We've showed you first shots of the Mazda Kazamai Concept, but here's more of the "Swirling Crosswinds" vehicle Mazda is showing off at this year's Moscow Auto Salon. Mazda revealed the concept crossover to give the Russian market — one of the few in which SUVs are rapidly growing in popularity — a look at where the company plans to take its next-generation crossovers. The Kazamai blends Mazda's Nagare design language in a small sport-ute just a tad bit larger than today's Mazda3, making it sort of the kissin' SUV cousin to the Furai concept we saw in Detroit. In the spirit of "sustainable zoom-zoom" — their words, not ours — Mazda has finally revealed the Kazamai, the mystery compact crossover bowing at the Moscow International Auto Salon August 26. Kazamai means "swirling crosswinds," and if you think you're seeing a heaping helping of Nagare design language, you're spot-on. Of more interest, the release mentions a next-generation direct-injection engine and a "new transmission," though we'd imagine that those too are currently concepts that won't see the light of day for a while. Not that it's a surprise to anybody, but the new RX-8 looks a lot like the preview shots we brought you earlier. Shown in a very Subaru shade of blue, the RX-8 is in fact destined for an update. Most of the changes happen in the nose with slightly revised headlights, a new grill treatment, the hood has a bigger rotary shaped indent, and of course the trend of the day - faux side vents. This is the Mazda Nagare concept. Ignore that it looks like one of Carrie Bradshaw's Manolos, or a tiger moth in the pupa stage, or a Pinewood Derby entry from that kid whose dad works for NASA. Pay attention, however, to the graduated surface lines. It's a new design language, say designers in flowery art-school prose, that expresses motion. Thus, they've dubbed it "Nagare," which is Japanese for "flow." The car is, in truth, a "concept of a concept," which will inform subsequent designs to be unveiled at this season's subsequent car shows. These guys are so meta they don't even know it.
