In an attempt to expand the appeal of the 2009 Dodge Challenger to every corner of the automotive enthusiast world, Chrysler has unveiled the Mopar Drift Dodge Challenger that will be piloted by Samuel Hübinette during the 2009 Formula Drift season. In order to prep the car for FD, the Challenger dropped a significant amount of weight with the use of carbon fiber everywhere and received a bit more safety equipment than your average SRT8. Under the hood is a custom-built Mopar A8 aluminum engine that should pump out 850 horsepower and 849 lb-ft of torque. They've also installed a minor tweak in order to let them drift along the walls, which we highlight below the jump. More »

Dodge is pulling out all its MOPAR stops for this year’s SEMA, bringing not only the Challenger SRT10, but six other concepts highlighting upgrades available straight from Mopar madmen. In keeping with SEMA’s fake boobs and loud stereos aesthetic, all six are painted atrociously, but we can’t help but be intrigued by the possibility of inserting crate HEMI engines into just about anything. Even the Jeep Patriot is getting the VIP treatment for next month's Paris Motor Show, arriving in Mopar-accessorized Back Country regalia. The Patriot Back Country concept gets a special coat of Optic Green paint along with a roof-mounted cargo basket, off-road lighting, 18" wheels and tires and blackout treatments at key exterior points. Inside, the gussied-up Patriot receives special urethane easy-clean seat material inspired by wetsuits. Overall, the Back Country package seems to complement the Patriot's interior refresh pretty nicely, and from certain no-doubt carefully chosen camera angles, the Patriot Back Country sort of vaguely resembles an older Toyota Land Cruiser from the rear three-quarter view. We're stoked that Chrysler is offering a Dodge Challenger Drag Pak turn-key racer, but how exactly do you go about ordering one from your local Dodge dealer? Since these mighty Mopars are going to be limited production, you gotta prove you're worthy. First, you're required to submit your application in writing to a dealer, who will then fax it to Mopar Motorsports' secret lair. Following the suspension of leasing by Chrysler Financial, Chrysler LLC has announced a new strategy to lower vehicle purchase payments to about the same price point that consumers were accustomed to with leasing. In addition to a model year-end promotion called "Shop 'Til You Drive," Chrysler will be expanding the vehicles eligible for 72-month loans, expanding cash incentives, in some cases to as much as $2,000, and providing additional cash incentives to customers coming off-lease. Automotive News reports that some Ram trucks will be getting discounts of as much as 40% off sticker price in an effort to clear inventory, and that Chrysler dealers will be encouraged to "think in terms of the kinds of clearance sales that department stores have."
