Obnoxiously over the top is an understated way to describe this Mercedes McLaren SLR dressed head to toe in chrome (including chrome-tinted glass) as it causes a scene outside the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai. Although this driver has a license plate number so high we'd assume it belonged to a pauper, we know it takes some serious scratch to buy an SLR, but can only imagine the price tag necessary to go ahead and chrome the living daylights out of it. But, while this silver-skinned SLR makes the all-chrome Audi and the all-chrome Ferrari look like last week's leftover meat loaf, we hear the owner's first choice may have been an all-chrome Bugatti Veyron Pur Sang. We recently showed you first shots of Hamann's new hyperstyled Benz supercar, the Hamann Volcano, which basically consists of a heavily modified Mercedes McLaren SLR. All we know about at this point is the garishly modified body and we'll have to wait for the official announcement to find out if this beastie's bite matches its bark. We're betting this kind of tomfoolery doesn't come cheap and considering the premium Hamann will probably charge to make your SLR stand out from all the others at Costco, this seems like a silly proposition. The fanboys over at Autogespot were awfully excited to spot this Brabus SLR McLaren Roadster in London; apparently, it's the first of its kind. Power is up from 626 to 650 HP, dropping the 0-62 mph time to 3.6 seconds and raising the top speed to 209 mph. While we're not that impressed by the limited performance boost, we're relieved to see that the owner had enough taste to keep the standard propeller-like 19-inch rims instead of opting for the 20-inch Brabus Monoblocks. We also find the white paint paired with the red top and interior strangely alluring, somehow lending the SLR's bulbous, awkward body a touch of class. More »

The McLaren SLR always leaves us scratching our heads. The thundering V8 is brilliantly finessed by McLaren so as to attract only the highest-end of horsepower-happy hoon. However, it's just too pretty. The engine's wrapped up in a package that screams for the depths of the celebrity elite — the oil barons, soccer stars, "gangsta" moguls and Gumballers of the world — to buy it and have their way with it. And by that we mean everything from showing off your "no-no spot," having difficulty entering and exiting, DUIs and of course, smacking into the rear (or front) bumper of a late-model Honda Civic. But for the privileged lowest of the low, the tuning shop of Mansory has put together an attempt to "Save The SLR" by making a version of the McLaren-mobile sure to be unwanted by even the most privileged of douches-with-privilege. What do you do with an SLR 722 GTR? Yes, its a race car; but there's no real competitive series for it to race in. And you can't drive the GTR on the public street. So the only thing it's really good for is showing off, which apparently it isn't very good at either.
