There's not much wrong with the Maserati GranCabrio, but any perceived fault can be outrun by a $28,000 upgrade from Novitec that puts 590 hp behind the trident. Can a dentist handle a supercar like this?

The Novitec upgrades derive from a supercharger for the 4.7-liter V8, along with intercooler and new exhaust system that includes a driver-selectable sound tuner. Outside, the changes are less radical, with some additional wind-cheating lines, carbon fiber parts and new wheels — 21-inch up front, 22-inch in back.

The changes spur the GranCabrio to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds, with a top speed of 187 mph, although it's questionable whether someone has actually tested a Maserati convertible top under such duress. We wouldn't turn down the opportunity...
